Everytime I use BS wash I still have head residue. Like gooey gunky white stuff on my scalp. I use 1 tablespoon of BS and a pitcher of hot water that is probably about 2 quarts. Am I using too much or maybe too less? My scalp never seems to be clean. I scrub and rinse really well.

Dumb question, but are you stirring the bicarb and water thoroughly before applying?

    I was every 3-4 days.

If I were to use shampoo, what kind would I use?

Any kind you want. Cheap 10p stuff or expensive £10.99. If you feel a residue build up, just switch to a different shampoo make (that's why every new brand feels like the best shampoo ever). It is that simple.

It sounds like you're not really getting your hair clean or not rinsing well. When I use BS I make it into a paste and scrub my scalp with it. Then rinse rinse rinse and rinse some more. Sometimes I'll put it on my dreads too but mostly I just get the scalp and maybe a bit of the dreads (I've found it dries out my hair so I don't use it on the ends which are usually clean anyways).

If you feel that your scalp isn't clean enough this might be the reason. Another problem with BS is if you don't rinse enough. It's harder to get out of your hair than shampoo but it does wash out. Sometimes the stuff people find on their scalp is actually baking soda left over. I only have this problem if I rush and don't rinse enough.

I know some people who use shampoo. My suggestion would be that if you want to use shampoo find one that doesn't leave a residue. A friend of mine uses the Suave Clarifying shampoo. I haven't tried it though so I can't really say how useful it is.

Dr. Bronners I personally don't like. I could never get my hair to feel clean with it. But a lot of people have luck with it. The trick is to make sure you have the right ratio of shampoo to water. Something I never figured out I guess.

    Good luck hon!

    *hugs*

I'm trying out Dr Bronners. Used it about some 3 weeks and it is leaving a sticky film on my hair and scalp. I've read a bit and found out it's a thing about the hardness of the water (I guess I have hard water). Supposedly this is the reason why detergents were invented. It's this, or perhaps the transition between shampoo and soap on my head. I don't know, however my scalp is very greasy, and I must wash every other day (tried water only for a while and believe me, it didn't work). It's been very hard for me to find something that works, because where I live it's hard to find all natural shampoos (might order some though; 38% TAX! o_O )

I've tried water only, BS, BS with tea tree oil, Dr. Bronners Bar, natural shampoo (with rosemary) and right now I'm trying Dr Bronners peppermint liquid (dilluted at 20/1 ratio). Once I also tried washing every 4-5 days for about a month, but my hair was excessively greasy. I also used to do some rosemary tea soaks, but didn´t work either.

ACV rinses don't wash all the residue out of my hair and scalp (I'm doing them once a week because my hair and scalp gets pretty loaded after about three washes). My hair feels as if I have applied some conditioner, and doesn't wash out even after multiple rinses. However it leaves my hair feeling much lighter and cleaner. Way better.

So actually right now I'm aiming at staying dandruff free, and removing the gunk out of my head/hair.

I'm going to try Dr. Bronners for maybe a couple of weeks more. Oh by the way, I am also adding in some blended Aloe Vera because I also have dandruff problems. I think next I'm going to try only aloe with water and some jojoba oil. I'm getting tired of trying all these methods because none is working.

Is there anyone with greasy scalp/dandruff/hard water that has found something that works for you? :)

Can someone give me some advice please? Thanks :)

I know I will find something sooner or later, I just hope it doesn't take years!
