well censorship of bad words is not that big of a deal. most kids in public school hear them all the time. now censorship of nudity and sexual remarks and crap yes it is necessary. don't wanna corrupt those young minds.
i hope some day to live in a world where children's shows have full nudity hardcore sex scenes, gratuitous tarantino-style violence, and jay and silent bob-style crude language. can i get an amen? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ON0iqz4ento"]YouTube - Jay and Silent Bob Rap
What I say,for example, thinking about certain politicians or when some dildong acts stupid---is "that suck-ass motherfucker!!" With exhuberance!!Just rolls off the tongue so nicely--but I don't say it in front of my grand kids. Or in public. So I guess I censor myself.
My personal opinion on the matter is...I will let my children curse. I will only let them curse around me and the household. I will teach them that while it means absolutely nothing to say these things around me, people in public find it offensive or improper. I wouldn't teach them this until they are old enough to understand it. Controlling our language is something the government wants, controlling the language we use, the things we see on tv. Its all a mirage, put there to keep us relatively quiet. Its slowly wavering though, some channels curse and show nudity. Some are straight up pornagraphy (gotta order those ones though). Its a load of shit. I think cursing is a healthy way to express something that is otherwise to tiring to explain.
When my children were younger I did censor some things. There were things on TV for example that they were not allowed to watch. Mainly as they were not age appropriate and I felt they were not suitable. They are now teens and I do not censor what they watch or listen to. As far as language, I expect them to be able to communicate without having to resort to swearing to replace real words to convey thoughts. That they may occasionally swear is not an issue but if they can not communicate without constantly doing so it would be.
I'm sure that's exactly what they meant. racial slang not cuss words. That's like someone saying yeah I know my son's having sex at a young age. Then someone else saying So you're letting your son rape people? It's easy to use words to get a reaction out of people. The media and church do it all the time. You succeeded too. You got a reaction out of me.
I think censorship generally is immature because it often comes with a strange kind of superstition and paranoia. It's almost as if these people think that saying the very words will cause something terrible to happen, like it will turn children into murderers or prostitutes. It also often assumes that sex or anything related to sex is somehow dirty or wrong and needs to be hidden, which is clearly absurd and it's that kind of shit that sends people nuts. It fails to recognise the mature mind's need to explore areas of life which are not necessarily roses and candyfloss, and assumes that people are babies who simply couldn't handle it. What's worse is it's often omitting parts of the true picture for no real reason other than a childish desire for everything to be pleasant. My mother swore infront of me on many occasions. She let me watch adult TV shows and films as far back as I can remember. When she told me about where babies come from, she told me about cocks and vaginas, not storks. I think this may be why I don't see the big deal.
Well most of the debate turns about that. "think of the kids!", because the kids are not familiar with swearing. As though they never will be. As though there'd still be anything wrong with it, if you JUST started acting like there was nothing wrong with it. Taboo's on sounds are kind of silly. I would limit coarse language in some circumstances, but I generally don't give a flying fuck. It CAN degrade your point, if the point's good enough it will make itself, and doesn't need shocking or strong language to back it up. But generally I don't even think about it, I just talk.
In Québec, children, teachers, politicians, etc. say the word "fucké" and its variants thereof. It's a little strange for a 5 year old to say it and nobody bats an eye. I think censorship is a little immature. Kids have access to the internet now people! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_that_most_frequently_use_the_word_"fuck"
