When I heard about Scott Pilgrim vs The World, I though, "Sounds interesting, kinda corny." What I got when I watched it wasn't what I expected! I honestly think it was one of the best movies ever made. It has the potential to be a huge cult-following film in the near future.

I wanted to know what other people's opinion on the movie was. Anybody agree with me?

I definitely believe it has the potential to become a cult fave. It's "out there" but it's still the kind of story most folks can relate to, I think. Especially anybody with a background in video games and/or comic books.

It looked way too girly and simplistic and silly from the trailers.

Never read the comic, but have heard good things about that (though nothing good about the movie until this thread)..

It's not girlie at all! In fact, the only people who swoon over it with me are my dude friends! If you like video games and comic books, you would like it. The movie is designed to look like a video game/comic.

That's part of what makes it seem so lame and silly =P

The look reminded me completely of Speed Racer mixed with Tron.

Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
    There's Zelda music in it!

It's funny I just saw this today and got on here to see if anyone had mentioned the movie, and it's potential to become a cult film. I loved it, and prided myself on getting the video game references. lol Michael Cera did well in a role that was kind of the same as his others but at the same time way different, and to think he started out on a show that probably very few have even seen (I actually liked Arrested Development despite its half-assed rushed ending because the show was cancelled).

I would not consider the movie to be cult, or have cult potential. I think the target audience is too young, the actors too popular, and the plot too linear.

    Still liked it tho.

It was by far the best movie of 2010. I watched it while tripping on 2c-i and was one of the best experiences I've ever had watching a movie. The funny thing is I had no idea how good it could be and was totally blown away.

I don't think the target audience is too young. A lot of times cult films take a while to catch on, and after years go by, the typical audience will have gotten older and I doubt they would change their tastes completely over time. Once the new generation comes, I think they'd have an appreciation for the movie too, even if they don't remember playing Mario on the Nintendo 64 like we do.

That right there ^ made me not want to watch it. A movie with Zelda music...no thank you. Zelda belongs in a video game not a movie.

I agree but they used the music pretty cleverly in the movie. They did a more softer version of it in a dream sequence that actually works for the scene.

The movie was fucking incredible, in fact i'm watching it again as we speak. Not to mention it's a Canadian movie and filmed in Toronto

(4 hours south of me where I love to visit- if you ever go check out kensington market.. great little hippie shops and go to the hot box cafe- you can vaporize in there and smoke pot outside in the back..im serious).

Anyways the movie is great because it shows our culture and how it's not just plaid and maple syrup and trees.

I saw it on shrooms, and it was great.

I song it a second time recently, it was pretty good, but it got really slow and repetative at some parts.

You are the first female I believe at all =P

I skimmed through the one comic and it's pretty gay. It seems to rely almost solely on cuteness, like a bad manga.

I haven't read the comics (I stick to the classics). It's definetly worth a watch.

I might have liked it had someone else played Scott Pilgrim. I don't loathe Michael Cera but actors like him who play the same character in every movie better be funny. And to me, there is very little comedy in his wimpy, shy around girls, shtick. I might have enjoyed it more had I not been sober. As far as it being a cult classic, I don't think it will ever reach that point as the style of the movie is just a bit too out of the norm for most people. Most cult classics were done on shoe string budgets (meaning no high dollar CGI or effects which brings a realism to them), were simplistic and offered a glimpse at real life (Clerks, Dazed and Confused, Office Space, etc). Many people who loved those movies LIVED those lives (granted there are others that don't apply such as Super Troopers, Star Wars, etc). True, the video game aspect pays homage to many of us who group up playing those games and reading comic books, in a time before the internet destroyed comic book collecting, etc. But It's not a movie that you can put yourself in. It's too "far out" or the suspension of reality is just too great. It's hard to become a cult classic when common sense is whispering to you "that could never happen" to one group, while another group can't relate at all. A better explanation may be the movie overwhelms you with CGI and graphics. It's just hard for many to ignore or relate to a movie when around every corner is an infusion of CGI or special effects. To me, this may be the biggest cult classic killer of them all. Because when inundated with CGI, you remove that relate/realism that most cult classics have. Ultimately, I think the audience that enjoys Scott Pilgrim isn't large enough for this movie to reach cult movie status. Just my assessment.

    I agree ^

However i'm glad Michael Cera played the lead. I think the whimpy-shy-around-girls-thing was perfect for this role.
