My goal is just to be upfront, open and respond to any questions about what it is like to have cancer as a young person. I do this because I have found in my daily life, even today, there are still lots of misconceptions and misunderstandings about the illness. The video is raw, nothing fancy, but I hope I can make up for that in other ways. Please feel free to ask anything, and, as long as it is respectful, I can address it in the future. This video journual, part 1, is more of an introduction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVE6olxX8AA"]YouTube - Cancer chronicles: Video journual of a young cancer patient, part 1: China to America
I watched the entire clip... first, thank you for being willing to share your ongoing journey. I hope that your disease is responding well to treatment. I look at cancer not so much as one illness but a rather broad category of a large number of illnesses.
I am glad that your treatments have been successful and that you are responding to them. I think it is a really great thing for you to be doing this and to be making it accessible to everyone. Cancer is not always a death sentence, even when they tell you it is. If you would like to post a copy of this in the Cancer, There Is Hope forum, I would make it a sticky and you could add to it. Rather like a journal of your journey. It may help others who someday are in the same situation and dealing with the same issues as you are. Thank you for sharing. This is the forum if you would like to make a duplicate thread and I will sticky it. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/forumdisplay.php?f=617 Best wishes to you as you continue healing.
Thanks Bubba, I think it will be hard for people to respond to your post because it's so far out of the realm of everyday experience, especially for young people. Thats why its so important that you are doing it. The video quality on my laptop didn't match the importance of what you had to say. It was a bit dark and seemed out of synch...I wanted to hear every word and watch you as you spoke. As it is I "felt" you and the power of your voyage. This experience has already shaped you into a more powerful and insightful man than people twice your age. Please keep us posted here. National public Radio sometimes runs audio files of people who are experiencing similar situations. Perhaps you could reach people through them or some similar medium as well as Youtube. Que te vaya bien, Steve
Thanks for the encouragement everyone! Yah, that is what I was thinking too, and I planned on addressing that at some point. I haven't even seen a few of my good friends yet, since being home. Then again, a few surprises, in regards to people who have stepped up. None the less, totally get where you are coming from! Yah, I am not too skilled with the webcam/video thing, though I tried, aha. Thanks for the advice, I will see what I can do. That was filmed as dusk set. I can wait to do the next one at noon on a sunny day , see if that makes a difference.
A source of light illuminating your features as you talk will help people follow... assuming the audio and video synch up. A small increase in mic volume might help as well.
I think your story is definitely something else...You are a very strong and inspiring person to come out and talk openly about this disease and the effects it has on you. I do look forward to seeing more videos if you choose to share them. It might sound weird, but it puts my mind at ease to hear about people's stories on this awful disease after losing my father to it. I don't feel so alone when I hear things like this.
Thank you. I am sending positive vibes your way and wish you well on your healing journey! I have a really dumb question, that doesn't have anything to do with the medical aspects of cancer... but I'll ask anyway because I feel like this question is what I would ask you if we were face to face and you needed some cheering up. If you had to make a playlist, like a superpower playlist that could beat cancer, kick its ass, knock it over sideways, cuddle it in moments of need, zap it with mind tricks, psyche it out, or whatever, what would it be? What kind of music have you been listening to lately? I always enjoyed discovering what kind of music you're into. Thanks again!
