i have a question. i had quit smoking weed for almost two years. then, i lit up one day and what went from every now and then became an everyday thing again. The last time i quit smoking it was because i had this inevitable feeling that i needed to cut back, and there actually came a reason along for that and i ended up quitting altogether for a long time. i really can't seem to help my cravings though. and idk how much it has to do with cigarettes, but if i have not smoked weed and im having a cigarette, 1. i get a [anywhere from slight to pretty big] headache and 2.i have a craving to smoke weed so the cigarette is better. what can i do to cut back smoking weed? how about cigarettes? i think if i can eliminate one, the other will come to a halt as well. or if i can cut back on one the other one will also cut back. BUT im really not sure. im not asking for scientific answers i just would like some advice. thank you!!!
habits tend to pair up, same with drinking and smoking so what do you want to do? do you want to cut back on both, or do you want to quit both?
i want to atleast cut back! i really would like to. there are certain points during the high that i will get a slight feeling of being depressed mainly bc of guilt and anxiety. [i have anxiety with or without smoking. but smoking does increase it] it would be good for my physical and mental health, for sure.
Dude its easy. Just associate smoking with new tasks. If you usually go out and smoke after you eat, think of the next thing you usually do. Adjust your schedule to skip over the cigarette and to that next task. Ask yourself how much you want to space the cigarettes, an hour? Two hours? Just wait until your mind HONESTLY wants one. Sip on some water to at least intake something, this will take the edge off the craving and the pure taste of the water will take your mind off the edge. Once those two aren't sufficing, go ahead and have one. You've earned it for your troubles. Makes the cigarette feel better too, yeah? As for cutting down on the weed, cutting down on the cigarettes will have a mirror effect on the weed cravings. I know from experience man, I was at a pack and a half a day a year ago...now I am at 1/3 of a pack and feeling great! Still need to quit though, I wonder when I'll get on that.
sipping water all the time when quiting tobacco can be dangerous.. plain water contains no minerals, you drink water like you smoke, your liable to over hydrate and disrupt your sodium and electrolytes.. drink gatoraid or propel vitamin water..
There's never a correct time to quit smoking, you have to beat the habit now! Except for weed cause it does nothing to you. >>
Oh I didn't mean constantly. Haha. If your looking for that constant nourishment yeah, powerade should do the trick.
for some people, cutting back is difficult or impossible. often times it's just either or as you experienced, even after a couple years away, you got right back into it pretty quick if it's a big problem for you, you may have to go cold turkey with both
Try an herbal smoking blend. Not one of those head shop "LEGAL BUDZZZZ" things or anything, I mean a legit blends of herbs for smoking. This can help wean you off the nicotine (or weed!) before you have to cut back on the actual habit of smoking something, which can be just as hard. This just takes the chemicals out of the second step. Plus some blends are good for your lungs! Try something like this for example: http://www.dragonherbarium.com/bulk-herbs-spices/bulk-herbs-s/smoking-mix-spice-blend Also, avoid drinking too much gatorade unless you're working out. Its good to supplement water but not replace it. Just squeeze some lemon in your water or eat salty foods and you'll get plenty of electrolytes.
well, these are great tips! though i disagree with the user comment stating weed can't do anything to you. well, its great that it does nothing to YOU,but i am not as lucky. [can increase anxiety]. [in the same respect, it can help calm me down. in my experience, there are pros and cons to weed] i really like the idea of sipping on water, or skipping ahead and doing something else... well i basically have maybe, a fifth of a gram left, that will likely be gone either today or tomorrow, and after that im going to quit asking my guy, and limit it to if HE calls asking if i want to buy, and if i happen to be in town when he does. which basically only offers once in a blue moon.
Chances are any "herbal blend" you try is NOT herbal and is just synthetic cannabiniods sprayed on random ass plants. How to not smoke as much? Don't smoke as much, duh. How to stop smoking altogether? Don't smoke at all, duh. Good god man, show some impulse control. are you a Homo SAPIENS or what?
Your signature says "I quit smoking"? I'm trying to quit smoking too right now...it's fucking hard. I drink water a lot, that does help (its also a habit I picked up to stop drinking so much.)...staying productive helps. Keep your hands and body busy. go out for a walk, clean your house, paint, draw, whatever. As for pot, I've cut back on that too. I only smoke when its offered to me, and I only buy it when its convenient and I have extra cash...and when I buy it I try and smoke people out a lot, so it runs out pretty quickly.
To cut back on the weed, start looking for things you would like to do, such as work or hobbies or things outside in the world that will take up your time that you would normally smoke in. I always smoke up the most when I have nothing to do or no reason to leave the house. As for cigarettes, just start cutting back one cigarette at a time if all you want to do is cut back to a certain level, it might suck at first, but one less cigarette a day for a week is not that much, and the next week you can cut out one more until you get to where you want. To give them up, I would just say cold turkey though. If your really have the drive to stop smoking.
who said anything about a herbal blend? you and i have very different lives, my friend. yes i am human, i am only human i am no God. i have humanely mistakes and mine was becoming addicted to cigarettes. as you can see, cigarettes are the true culprit here; they are the true grip. I am also young [21] in adult years, i face anxiety, i wake up and put my pants on one leg at a time. i seek advice if it is fruitful, or help myself if it is not. i really, am having a hard time figuring out who you are barking at. so please, next time use the "quotation" feature. and to knotdirty, i actually quit using the forums when i quit smoking, and left that on there on mistake. i haven't posted since 2007, until a couple weeks ago i believe.
I don't mean those fake "incense" blends like Spice, I mean legitimate blends of herbs. Just straight up herbs. For example the thing I linked to is just a bulk mix of mullein, damiana, coltsfoot, red clover, wild lettuce, and ginseng leaf. ---------------- Listening to: Daedelus - Penny Loafers featuring Inara George via FoxyTunes
tophat said something about it, actually My advice for quitting anything is to have a goal, and stay occupied. I've never had a hard time quitting cigs, because I generally only smoke them when I'm already occupied. If I smoke when I'm bored, I can't stop till my pack's gone, but if I'm busy, I have no problem stopping. If you have nothing to stay occupied, MAKE something. I suggest going for a bike ride, if you have nothing to do set a long goal, take water, and ride however far it might be, try something like 10 miles if you smoke lots of cigs, you'll have to work back into being healthy. Or if you're stuck inside or have things to do, do a set of as many pushups as you can every time you want a cig. (keep thinking "one more", you'll be suprised) Also, stop downplaying yourself. Fuck god, god is a creation of man, and if we can create god, doesn't that make us even moar powerful You can do what you put your mind to, especially something as simple as quitting inhaling burning plant matter. You'd be suprised what a can-do attitude can change. Especially combined with the endorphins that the aforementioned exercise will get flowing. If you get off to the exercise high, along with pushups, you should try pullups. You just need a railing or other free hanging bar, that's high enough you can bend your knees back to keep your feet off the ground. Start by holding in the UP position as long as you can, if you can't do one. Then lower as slowly as you can, over and over. Seriously, I get high doing pushups, and not because I'm burning THC out of fat (well, not ONLY because of that) it's good shit, you should try it. I like making the decision, and putting it in your sig. Just make sure you keep in mind that you MADE it, and now can't smoke, no matter what. (at least.... not cigs... weed's a lot easier in moderation, if moderation's your game) Never a time to make decisions like NOW. I'm rambling pretty badly, I'll go away now.
I'm not letting myself buy another pack, and I haven't smoked for 24 hours...but I do have my pipe and half a bag of Black Cavendish...
this is how i refrain my friends from smoking cigarettes sometimes... i tell them, if you don't have a cigarette now, you can just have another one later!
I've found the only way to quit smoking cigarettes is to go completely cold turkey. If you cut down from a whole pack to half a pack or even to just two cigarettes a day, its too easy to start smoking more and be back up to a pack a day during a stressful time in your life. Quitting cigarettes is hard as hell. There is no way to get around that. You can do things to make it easier but it will never be easy. Try replacing it with something. Exercise, potato chips, gum, whatever. Also, I remember reading years ago that acidic juices like apple and orange juice help cleanse the nicotine out of your system faster so drink lots of juice. It generally takes 72 hours for your body to rid itself of nicotine. After that, the addiction is purely psychological. The psychological part has always been the hardest for me. Good luck. As for weed, my problem with weed is that if its in my possession, I'm going to stay high all day every day. If you have more self-control than me, you could try only smoking at night after you've done everything you needed to do for the day. Or only smoke on the weekends, or your days off. If you're like me and you're going to smoke all the time if you have weed, you could just stop buying it. I generally try to keep it a social thing now and only smoke with my friends. I don't really buy my own anymore, I just throw my friends a few dollars towards their bags so I don't feel like a big bum for smoking their weed. good luck.
