Why do young people always post pictures of themselves online?

I do on some websites, like Facebook I guess.

Anywhere that I want to have a real discussion, like here, I am always hesitant to share my photos because I don't want some motherfucker going to my profile and then "re-considering" my posts based on what I look like.

Basically, I only share when it's important that people know what I look like. Which isn't a whole lot of the time.

 

I never understood, why the girls make nude pictures about them selfs and later gets uploaded on sites like facebook, or etc.

Does not bother them, that strangers jerks off on their pictures?
I find that kind of creepy.

 

...and then they complain about being stalked when someone sees them in public and tells them "hey! Great pics in Facebook!". Like shit, girl if you don't want people to see your pics, don't put them up! And if you put them up, expect to be treated like a wanna-be celebrity. It'll happen, too. Especially if you're nekkid.

 

perhaps its just the way young people arent as paranoid as the old farts
and interact in a new way. life is very public for young people
why dont old people hide their hideous faces in public that way the young wouldnt have to stare at such ugliness

well there are certainly plenty of young people who have come to regret being too public with their lives.

everyone uses attention to gain acceptance and validation. its sort of funny when people try very hard to look like models with the underwear shot and duck face (that does seem a bit desperate), but its only human error. besides if you're using facebook to get attention by showing off you're ultra cool life you're going to get very bored with it soon and possibly look like a jackass. if someone is vain or following the trends its not some big deal. personally i have facebook but don't put anything on it and have very few friends. i don't use my real last name either though.

 

Because of myspace and facebook. We don't see at as a problem that people can see us all over the internet. It doesn't creep us our or anything. However, I do like seeing the face of who I'm talking to. It's easier to relate to, yanno?

 

I don't. I didn't even use my real name on FB. I closed it down, but I was very much anonymous.

 

Cuz we want to put our face out there. Or get attention.
Or let people know what we look like, cuz some online friends get curious.
To prove your not a 50 yr. old creeper (Even though the picture could easily be fake. But w/e.)

Because they are stupid and dont realise the security risks NOR DO THEY CARE ABOUT THIER OWN PRIVACY!!

Hey wait a minute woah just hold on a dead-horse-floggin minute here.
There are plenty of young people (alas I am no longer able to count myself in that number) that are not stupid and also use facebook.
There are plenty of young geniuses out there who are using face book to get their talent recognised. People far more talented and creative than in previous era's.
Just because you dont understand the internet medium and young people dont conform to your ideas of what people should do, this does not mean they are going about life the wrong way.
Why should they care about their privacy? What have they got to hide? The dangers are always being talked about and discussed. I remember being at school and being told a thousand times to look both ways before crossing the road. A few never took the advice as seriously as I did, and got hit by cars. Why should I bother, its all part of natural selection. I dont think of young people as being stupid for wanting to have some kind of blog where they document their lives and have lists of friends.
As for the dangers, far more young people die of alcohol and cigarette related deaths and traffic accidents than ever were put in danger by posting on facebook

 

Thank you. I will never understand facebook hate. I'm not obsessed with mine, but it's nice sometimes to be able to catch up with someone you haven't talked to in a while, and it's fun to see pictures of how things are going for them. My best friend moved to Michigan a few months ago, and we are on drastically different schedules at the moment, so if it weren't for facebook, we wouldn't be able to connect nearly as often, and then the friendship would whither and die. There is some good in it. Just because some people abuse or get in trouble with it doesn't necessarily make it the root of all evil.
Sometimes I think people just hate the mainstream because it is mainstream... the irony being you're just letting something else run your mind, so what's the difference between following the mainstream and just blatantly hating all that it entails without evaluation?

to be frank, i am young and a female yet i do not post any photo of myself anywhere online. i stopped doing that in high school. just a few years ago, i for some reason just stopped. but i am glad i did. i just use pictures of animals or celebrities i like. my friends know that the profile is mine so who cares if i have my pic, or someone else's?

 

Maybe it's because they seek attention they can't otherwise get?

Why are you people so judgmental? People just like to take pictures and share their lives. If someone wants a picture with me I'll have a good time with it and ham it up and let them tag me on facebook or whatever. Its really not a big deal, don't be so frumpy.
