Cool, bro. First thigns first, I'm not a bro. Secondly, I'm glad that around that huge ego you're harboring that you were capable of figuring out that I'm not a hippie at all. And I wasn't trying to insult you, I was telling this free-speech forum how I feel about you, and if you allowed yourself to be offended by it, it is by all means your fault, and in no means mine.

look man i am certainly not worked up about fake hippies but i'd LOVE to meet and speak with true hippies of my kind of interests and mindset especially...and i thought i'd find that in a hippie forum but apparently not.

Well- peace was an ideal that conveniently fit the desire not to be sent to southeast Asia to fight in a questionable war. The hippie movement was largely a fad and fashion statement then as it is now with most people. It's all good though... if someone wants to call him/herself a hippie it does not affect me unless I let it... in all fairness it's none of my fucking business.

I'm not a hippie and never claimed to be one. I post on hip forums because it's a different an interesting place, even if I don't agree with all of the prevailing ideas.

That is how I view the forums, also. I don't see it as a place solely for hippies to congregate...I see it as a place where open-minded individuals can get together and discuss, debate, and learn from each other.

This is the rhetoric of cliquish elitism.... definitely NOT a true hippie.

and thats fine with me. as a true hippie, i welcome all sorts of mindsets & people. not that this is MY forum..but ya know it'd be groovy if there were more people on here that were true hippies instead of a bunch of randoms coming to talk about random stuff on a forum called HIP (hippie) forums.
By the way the home site is called hippy.com and you can see that this whole website is about hippiedom, the 60s and such. Not about not being a hippie and arguing about the label.

That's funny that you agree. You're one of the posters I would consider most true to the ideology of a hippie (and I mean the full range of flavors, not just the flower children)

    You'll find all kinds here.

But just like anywhere else; you're gonna have to sift through to find your gold.

My fringed buckskin is fringy-er than yours....

I've read The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test more times than I can count...

My dick is bigger than yours...

Well- I try to be true to myself and leave the labeling to others. If I try to pigeonhole myself then I risk alienating some incredible spirits. I have thankfully grown past the phase of needing everyone to agree with and share the same mindset as me... because with rarity comes added value... whatever one wishes to classify me as. :)

I really like that; I'm currently going through a crisis of alienation even though I once loved being a misfit. And it made me smile.

I hope it helps resolve the crisis you're putting yourself through. Every day I learn something new and the sources of my new bits of wisdom are quite surprising to me when I think about them.

You have a pretty damned good head on your shoulders and have no real reason for concern. I've read some of what you've shared on these boards and while I cannot say I completely agree with everything (that'll never happen with anyone) but I can say that I get the sense that you're being completely honest and that reflects respect... as well as earns it.

Oh- and my disagreement with something does not mean that it is wrong- I have room to grow too and anyone can serve as a teacher at some point.

I've found that we're usually never considered what we think we are, and we are often something different to each and every person.

If you say something I find offensive, I might find you to be an unsavoury person. Whereas you just thought you were being funny. To me, you're offensive, by your own definition, you're funny.

People will often only ever think, hear, see or feel, what they want to think, hear, see or feel. These are opinions that can often not be changed.

It's important to both not get caught up on what other people are, or think they are, as well as to not get caught up on how we look to others, and what we think we are.

    We are what we are.

As for hippies, don't forget, most of the hippies from the 60's cut their hair and got jobs for "the man" (whatever that really means). Goes to show you how strong their ideals of peace and love and freedom really were. The ideals died along with the realisation that if they hung on to them, they likely faced a lifetime of poverty and oppression.
