i went away a while ago to take care of a friends dog and her place. while gone, the whole time, i never turned on the tv as i didnt feel the need to. when i returned home, i havent watched tv since. if its on and my family is watching it, i sit away from the tv and read, so that at least im being social, or i listen to music. i have found that i have more on my mind, i focus more, and im happier too. which got me thinking, why do so many people spend time in front of tv?? and also, as a child, i grew up watching cartoons, etc... and i watch re-runs of things i watched as a child, and the content of it, if i had children, i wouldnt let them watch it at all. i love not watching it anymore, and i just thought id put it out there, but does anyone else have the same or similar views??
I grew up the same. And I spent years as an adult glued to it as well. I haven't watched tv in almost a year and a half now. I miss it sometimes, but I don't want to be a tv zombie again.
Yeah, and I didn't like how my world revolved around getting home/up for some show that I just couldn't miss. I remember getting seriously stressed out if I missed an episode of something. Bah.
Breaking the addiction to the TV is a big step towards freeing your mind of the matrix. Your thoughts will be much clearer and you will start to see through the programming. The negative is that you will also start to see how most of the people around you are unoriginal drones who no longer have the ability to think critically about anything.
Yeah i've been off TV for years now, only thing is i sit in front of a laptop non-stop instead. My family think i'm unsocial cos i don't wanna sit and listen to the crap they watch non-stop all day! I hate TV and people who don't mute or change over adverts annoy me even more. fuck tv
awesome, im glad that people feel the same about tv. i agree, thats what ive found, my mind is alot clearer, and i do see alot more, and how people kinda revolve around a tv. which i think is pretty sad.
I Haven't Watched T.V. For Two And A Half Years.... Very Much Doubt I Have Missed Anything Of Cultural Value.... Cheers Glen.
It depends somewhat what kind of TV you watch, as to how it affects you. I only ever really watch TV when I'm at someone else's, bar the odd bit of internet TV news, and the like. Watching a decent news channel, some clever comedy or intelligent documentaries can be quite informative/interesting. It's the majority of low-standard crap which is not worth watching.
i like to watch tv, i watch it and watch it and watch it it's not plugged in though, so it just sits there i'm easily amused . . .
And the funny thing was that for three or four years I had to keep telling friends "No I don't need your spare tv I've got one in the root celler and it works."
I loath watching TV. It twists your mind and thoughts so you forget what is really important. .... I haven't had TV in over 2 yrs. You just have to find something else to do like playing with your kiddos or hiking or sewing. .....something
i agree. ive re-discovered my love of reading, painting, or sometime i just like to think about things, walk, and im never bored, loving it!!!! its so easy to do, but on the other hand, i cant judge my family for being tv-orientated, now they see me as a bit odd, as i dont watch tv with then, and i just sit there with a book, etc... they think im boring, but, far from it... its funny having all the different views.
went to fix some window at my mothers and she shushed me when watching tv... well I guess channel 11 news is going to need to fix it now. and I dont give a fuck how much rain wind shit comes in... if they are more important to you call them when you need assistance.. and thats for the attitude I got when I broke one of my 3 cars down.... big deal, she act like she owns them... Gets good idea from that fuckofaface mother on I love Raymond. If I ever seen that prick in RF Id show him just how much I love him to by giving him a curb smile and he can sit on the couch and watch the news reruns / crazy squirrel hates raymond ....
Awww, man. She's your mom. The babble box has invaded and is rotting her brain. To the OP: Be Here Now is hard to do when you're watching what was there, then. Reality TV is to Reality as Military Intelligence is to Intelligence.
