Big article in todays Register-Guard today about the dams above us here in Eugene-Sprigfield. Says if an upper earthen dam fails because of an earthquake ,the dams down river from them would fail also and this town would be 70 feet under water!!!! Where are my swim fins and snorkel?[IMG]

We found a surplus "d" and sent one over.

Considering the rush of water that would result from a dam bursting I don't think there's a swimming skill level advanced enough to handle the current.

They said it would take an hour to here, but I'm sure the roads would be so jammed with vehicles with panicked people that nobody would get anywhere---thanks for the d.

Major earthquakes tend to fuck everything up regardless of where you are. Don't feel too lonely - half of Vancouver will be underwater.

generally speaking, people tend to worry too much about big scary accidents and too little about the small ones. things like car accidents, heart attacks, choking, are more likely to get you than other things

still, the potential hazard is scary. I've heard of some communities in tsunami zones building tsunami-proof buildings. basically a building on reinforced stilts, and then everybody climbs on the roof

I think seventy feet of water is way too much to practically build a structure to resist that though

easiest thing to do is to move if you are worried

Listen Scratcho, the important thing to remember is don't go in the water for at least an hour after you've eaten...just keep that in mind and you should be OK. Cheers.

Scuba gear might need to be a strong investment. Could you put it all on in 4 seconds though?

Yeah I think I would be glade I could swim too. Though if the water gets really high no swimming level skill could handle the current.

No time to waste and this has been done before.

Please note that it does say you may make it to fit your backyard.

    Good luck. :)

For all the negative aspects of the impending disaster there’s still one positive – it’ll put your town on the map [IMG]
