My brother had a maine coon (cat) which regularly had to be groomed (shaved) on the backside because of the poo-poo and/or litter that would get stuck back there...other than that...grooming with a good, firm and small animal brush and/or some good grooming gloves was always more than adequate.

(I think we all made the horrible err of giving you credit for saying the "note to self", which you did not...but it was funny, at least to me.) And in saying that...I am definitely considered old by many your age. I have ALL MY LIFE had one and/or more cats...both inside and outside, and have never, ever shaved a cat not even considered it. THAT is why perhaps at least some of us considered this (shaving a cat) somewhat "different".

Hey - apparently, your cat is fine with it...especially since you took his pic later and he surely looks no worse for wear. He must be a cool, fine animal.

But you'll still not find me attempting any such thing such as shaving on any of my 5. They have me very well trained, thank you very much. :D

Lord Yes!!! They are a true cat lover's breed. A full-bred maine coon will have long hair between his paws, and it is thought this was "evolved" so that they could tread more easily over snow.

They are huge cats and quite intelligent.

At one point, the largest cat in history (was, anyway) was an orange Maine Coon named Leo, (I think)...google it...it's a neat story about him and how big he is.

    "cat with stripes"...u r silly....

Another big characteristic is the "stripes" on their (great big) heads will always form an M above their eyes, with the middle of the M being in the middle. Neat info, huh?

let's not get into this dilemma :toetap05:

But he is pretty cool with it...I can't help but crack up every time he walks by. And he is known to just lay on people spontaneously. For instance, if I'm sitting on the couch, he will climb on me and put his paws on my shoulders and push me down so that he can lay right up on my chest. He's quite the whore

Bahahaha, so THIS is the thread the sig is about. This poor cat once wandered up to our porch, he was shaved like a lion. It was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen and I think the neighbor animals probably laughed at the poor thing. I did, but tried to stifle my laughter in his presence, as not to wound his already damaged ego.

yeah my in laws did the lion thing last summer...that's why my cat started choking on his neck-fro haha! I felt bad but its grown out a little so it looks more even. He better get used to the buzzer, though, cuz I'm not dealing with his miserable ass once summer comes!
