    Hey guys,

I am a 25 year ols girl, i have a fiance and 3 young children. We have gotten to the point where we dont want to bring our children up in Britain, we want them to have a better, safer, easier quality of life. I have never visited Australia but i have a cousin who visited and never came home, and also a family that we were friends with they moved and love it. I have only just started looking into moving and any help would be greatly appreciated, i am looking at Syndney as we come from a large city over here. My partner does have a skilled trade, hes a bricklayer.

Thanks for reading, i look forward to any help you can give

    xx

i'm from sydney and i don't reccommend the place. it is way overpopulated and is rapidly becoming a congested crappy place to live.
the highways into sydney are always bumper to bumper usually taking several hours to travel what should take only 40 minutes.
it's ok further out towards the outer/country suburbs eg; penrith. however even those areas i would not call "safe"

adelaide and melbourne are much nicer. and much safer.

    just something to consider.

Ok as someone who has lived in both England and Australia I will start with the positives of living here and then some of the warnings.

You are right that there are many positives. The cliche is the weather. THat part is true. Of the cities I would choose to live in, Melbourne or Perth would be the two I would look at. Melbourne if you want the more cultural lifestyle...theatre, live shows, gigs etc etc. Perth if you want big city amenities but a slower pace to things.

Don't come to Australia thinking that things are safer. It simply isn't true. I have lived in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Brixton (London). All considered traditionally dangerous places. I can promise you that I felt much safer in all of those places than I do in Australia right now. I could make a list of daily bashings, home invasions, rapes, drive-bys and murders the length of my arm,

Sorry to be on a downer with that one but you need to know that the image of Australia as a friendly suburban country simply isn't true.

Also, don't come under the impression that things are cheaper here. They are not. My expenses are at least 30 percent higher than they were whilst living in London. You will be earning less and paying more for a lot of things, particularly food and housing costs.

Whatever you do, don't make the move without visiting first. To be prepared you need to be here for at least a month, probably two, then go back home, think about it and then decide. You need to be 100 percent sure that the move is the right thing for you, not that it was right for your friends, but for you. As someone who has moved around a lot in my life, believe me that is key.

At the end of the day you need to decide whether the sun is worth those sacrifices. Let me know if you need any other help :)

I hate to tell you this but Sydney has some of the most unaffrodable hosing in the world compared to what you earn. A release of some new housing blocks had people camping out overnight to pay $250,000 for a suburban block. A housing block where I live can be had for 1/10 of that.

Hi, you do appreciate that "better" and "quality of life" are subjective.

For me "better" means snow in winter and pine trees. For me "quality of life" means a patch of dirt to grow some home veg and natural wildlife.

Some facts about Melbourne where I live, though I wish to move to Tasmania.

    Our weather:

    All the best!

Tasmania is much slower, greener, safer, cheaper and down to earth. I definitely recommend a move to Tasmania, I haven't ever met a peron to move here and hate it.

Cairns has every you need from a city, but with it spread out nicely. Plus you've got the reef and the rainforest.

    Should check it out
