This morning I opened my box of baby cacti and there were these little bugs crawling everywhere! and they can fly! What should I do!!?
1- Get all your cacti out of your box. 2- Clean and disinfect the box. 3- Inspect your cacti to see if they're still healthy and if they have been damaged in any way by the bugs (eggs laid, parts eaten, etc.). 4- Healthy or not, I'd also tend to replace the soil, clean the pots (or get new ones) and rinse the cacti roots out because you never know, there might be bug eggs or larva in the soil. You could also spray some organic pesticide on your cacti after you rinsed them for extra safety. If it contains pyrethrenes though, I wouldn't recommend it on San Pedros, it burns their skins.
I should have mentioned most of them haven't sprouted yet - so I'd be throwing away a lot of my seeds I sprayed rubbing alcohol and that killed a lot of them, but I think they'll be coming back... I'll look into the organic pesticides though! Thanks <3
They might come back. You should still get a new box according to me, sounds safer. If you can sort out the seeds from the soil and plant them in new, healthy soil that'd be the best, if you can't just dilute organic pesticide in water (safe for the plants, so no worries) and soak the soil with this liquid regularly until you feel the bugs are gone for good.
You got fungus gnats. Do as Bassline suggested and get them into a fresh, sterile media fast. Make sure you clean the old dirt off the roots thorougly.
