    The reverence of Lady Gaga.
The popularity isn't so bad, but the respect she is given by so many.

I understand when people have trouble understanding something they may mistake it for being really intelligent (I declare this 'the Inception syndrome'); but with lyrics like "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick"?!

I think this is related to the HERO thing and in a way sort of like royalty. There seems to be a need for people to have someone to look up to or admire. Maybe we assign some of our own traits to these people in some subconcious way then stand back and admire them. Perhaps some Yungian thinker in the crowd can comment about just how full of shit I am..who knows. At any rate GaGa easily fills that role because she's so comfortable being outrageous and she has some admirable qualities.

    Things you just don't understand
I gotta say that when I first saw the title I immediately thought...Glen. How can you begin to understand Glen!?

    Good point.
But the reason that people aren't more outrageous in real life is that they are scoffed at. Often by the same females who listen to Lady Gaga (the gay fans are totally exempt from this argument)

The way we admire qualities in celebrities that we hate in strangers is another thing I can't understand =P

We as people need that and GaGa does it well and so over the top that it's acceptable in her case. She's like olympic class outrageous, gold metal quality outrageous and the reason we scoff at that in others but give GaGa acomplete class is the grace with which she is outrageous...does this make one goddam bit of sense? Also ou gotta watch me here cause I'm gay and we;re known to be weird just by dint of breathing...

I don't think it'd bother me as much if she didn't pretend to be so intellectual; really. Us nerds are pretty weird, too =P (No offense meant to the smarter nerds, by comparing myself)

I mean, I love GWAR for their showmanship, hell, I'm a Zappa fan. Gaga's just so Warhol-esque... Iunno.

Nearly every female under 30, some men under thirty, and every other gay guy (but that last part makes a bit more sense)

I don't know what the hell you people over 30 do; you don't exist according to my TV.

i respect her, im not a hollywood person, even though i'm actually in hollywood as we speak haha, and i am anything but overpaid.
and theres no reason not to respect someone unless they fuck something up for you.

i think the style of person she is when you see her on video blogs, what she calls "Gagavision" is not understood by most people. and when you take that person to a mass media performance level, the misunderstanding or love for her is amplified.

thats a good point, never thought about that.
maybe its a lesson to be learned that the way we treat normal people shouldn't be different than having a seizure because 'justin bieber touched my hand *faint*' haha. her lyrics on her albums are about 'fame' and stuff anyway.

LOL I agree completely. Same thing goes with Justin Bieber. My uncle who's diabetic and was in the hospital with liver damage in a lot of pain had said "It doesn't hurt as bad as seeing bieber on t.v"

i didnt mean like disrespect anyone that gets in ur way, i guess i wrote that completely wrong. but anyone that fucks with you for the sake of a selfish or evil cause is a good permission to disrespect them. besides that i guess, everyone should respect eachother.

I am glad you said that. Everyone talked inception up so much. By the time I finally got around to seeing it I was so disappointed. I didn't think it was groundbreaking or genius at all.

As for Lady Gaga, I think her music, the maybe two songs I've heard, is pretty generic bubble gum pop, but I do like her crazy style. I've read a few interviews with her and she seems smart. I get the impression that she knows exactly what she's doing. Pop stars like Britney Spears are completely controlled by their record label, but I get the sense that Lady Gaga is in complete control of her career and music. In one article I read, she talked about how she used to do these sappy piano ballads, then one day realized that the music she enjoyed listening to was poppy dance music, so she stopped playing the piano and started making music that she herself would enjoy.

She definitely does know what she is doing; is a good businesswoman, and she even has a song I respect the quality of (Bad Romance), but I see the outrageous style as attention-whoring, plain and simple -- which, don't get me wrong; is a part of art (as a profession); but I find hers to be so base and crude.

She acts crazy and people talk about how unique she is; she's the original Charlie Sheen, if you ask me.

I read an interview of hers in Maxim when she was first coming out, and she seemed real cool, was talking about how art doesn't have to have meaning, and she's just making music.

Months later, I see her being interviewed by Toure on Fuse, and she's talking about how everything she does just has so much meaning to it, and she's speaking all stiff and 'intellectual' and artsy, but when she goes to describe the meaning of anything she's "it's like how... you get angry" and sounds like a complete retard.

It's like she went from one rip-off of Warhol to the next (who I also hate)

I'll have to remake this thread in a few days; I always forget not to answer myself in the OP =P
