I intend to spend Royal Wedding Day trying to avoid seeing a single glimpse of coverage of this thoroughly dull event. I don't even want to think about it. I don't want to know it's going on. And when their marriage breaks down amid public scandal twenty years down the line, I don't want to remember where I was and what I was doing the day I didn't say 'I told you so'. It's going to be a mighty challenge. How are you going to spend your free holiday courtesy of our dear irrelevent leaders?

I was thinking of spending it at my allotment... but the damn allotment committee has organized a royal wedding bar-b-que.

I'll probably just head off into the countryside somewhere...or if the weather's adverse, just look the doors, and keep the radio turned off.

I was around at the Chas-Di one, but I'm buggered if I can recall what the hell I did that day.

But see: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=414133&f=606&page=4 for a nice bit of ephemera...

Bit ambitious that isn't it :) Celebrate Hitlers Wedding anniversary instead :)
I'm out of the country so hopefully won't see one Iota of it :p

Watch your favourite box set or collection of films, sit back and enjoy

Anybody else think it's weird that it is the anniversary of Hitlers wedding today and that Harry wore a Nazi uniform a few yeas ago and that Prince Philip is German... Coincidence ????? The Nazi's are taking over already !!!!

Want another coincidence ? Today in 1986 was the funeral of Wallis Simpson, the woman who was the cause of one of the biggest blows to the esthablishment in the 20th century, being the cause of the abdication of Edward VIII.

Apart from the fact that that particular happy couple were thought to be Nazi sympathisers, if it hadn't been for her input into history then we probably wouldn't be having this royal farce today.

Assuming Edward VIII would have had offspring by someone more "suitable", then the current bunch of top royals would in fact have been just a bunch of lesser royals who no-one could quite remember.

Liz Windsor, Chas, Bill & Kate have all got a hell of a lot to thank Wallis Simpson for.

Its raining here today...hope the street parties go ahead - if only because it might give one or two participants cause to pause and ask themselves: "Why the hell are we doing this ?"

BTW, since they refer to him as Phil the Greek, I always assumed Mr Windsor was Greek. Personally, I think these shape-shifting lizards are a nationality unto themselves.

Haha, the haters have made my day today. I can understand those who don't give a damn about it, but I don't get those to hate so badly.

I loved it. I couldn't care less about the royals but I can't help but admire Kate. It was the most perfect fairytale wedding (the dress, the music, the carriage etc.) and she certainly had her Prince Charming waiting for her at the alter :) I wish them as much good luck in their marriage as any other couple.

I'm off to my friend's for a booze up and a good belly-fill. Today is a good day! :D

Not so much a case of hating them as individuals so much as questioning the whole system of hereditary monarchy...the idea that someone is in some intangible way better than you or I, simply by accident of birth.

I dont have much time for the likes of, for example, David Beckham and Posh Spice...but at least they've got where they are by their own efforts, not by accident of birth.

I thought the whole thing was summed up nicely in a letter to Metro free newspaper yesterday, from S. Sumner of Manchester...

I believe royalty is a contravention of Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states: All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Clearly the royals are born with more rights than us.

What a bizarre system we have where a child of William and Kate - who hasn't even been born - already has the right to be a head of state with associated privileges including the expectation that people bow before them.

Bizarre isn't the word. The truth is - Bill & Kate aint no better than you or me. Why do we persist in fooling ourselves that they are ?

So,how does this work--when the Queen goes to that spot in the sky reserved for those that are quite a bit better than the rest of us---does William become king and does Kate become the queen? Who and what's next?

for the record, i feel a wedding is a wedding - important or not, so long as the people involved are doing it for the right reasons, i'm happy for them

her mother pushed her toward him, but even still, you can see there's affection there. i don't understand the hate.

How come the Queen doesn't join in the singing of "God save the Queen"?

I've never understood why one woman, or man for that matter, is deemed so important that a nation should ask god to save them. Really can't understand why the country is obsessed with this family. Personally, I was raised to believe I'm as good as anyone and I am NOT a subject but a citizen.

By the way, we had a horror movie fest.

Eldest male heir in direct descent - that's Chas if he doesn't snuff it first.

If the first born is female, she's the heir but only until a male sibling pops out. So if the oldest is female and has 6 younger brothers - she aint queen, she's only 7th in line.

    British monarchy in the 21st century...or did I mean 11th century ?

Hell, man - she's the queen.

She has someone to sing it for her...

....that nice Mr. Rotten, for example.
