Looks like there's a good chance that circumcision will be banned in San Francisco? Could this be the first step towards banning circumcision in the entire United States? Do you think male circumcision should be illegal or not?

Yes, I think cutting up a child's penis for religious ceremony should be banned.

It should be the person's choice, when they become an adult (or possibly even a teenager) and they decide they want to mutilate their penis, then they can do so. Parents shouldn't force their infants to have it done to them at birth.

I think it should definitely be banned, wait till the child's old enough to decide for himself, unless it's for some kind of medical reason or something.

I think circumcision should be banned when parents are doing it to a child or infant. Once a person is old enough to understand and know whats going on and they give there consent should it be legal. Because cutting up a boys penis is just wrong.

Yeah, circumcision is just wrong. A lot of people tell me it's a religious thing, but if it was any other group of people was cutting up baby penises because a book told them to, the government would should down that shit within an hour.

With the Plastibell, it's not a terribly painful process. It's a very old tradition, and now it's safer than ever. It lowers the risk of HIV infection.

Foreskins also are helping us develop skin in biomedicine. It is some of the best skin for a skin graft. They're also the basis for β-interferon-based drugs. Circumcision is not merely a cosmetic procedure or a religious thing; people do it for a lot of reasons, and it should not be outlawed.

ban it *on nonsonsenting*. it's no better than fgm, which is illegal. any body mods should be decided by the person themselves. i hate hate hate when baby girl's ears are pierced, but u never hear anything about that.

NO fucking way this should be banned. Men develop differently as they go through puberty. Sometimes the foreskin does not develop as the penis grows with age. This becomes very painful when you have an erection and the only fix with this problem is circumcision. Honestly this is absurd, people get circumcised for different reasons, not just religious.

It is male genital mutilation. Try to stick whatever label on it you wish, make whatever health claims you wish, it is simply, mutilation of babies.

For women to argue for it on any basis, would be like guys arguing for female genital mutilation...

Seriously... you want to take a knife to a child around me... you had better have some awfully tough bodyguards... cause you are going to need them...

I wont speak for anyone else, but I am.

Regardless of that though, I don't need the experience of it, to know that to mutilate a baby is wrong.

There are all kinds of culturally instituted body modification practices. Some south east asian girls place metal rings around their necks which they wear their entire lives. As they grow they add more rings which forces the shoulder girdle down and gives the appearance of a long feminine neck. A deforming tradition that is regarded as a sign of beauty. There is an african tribe that practices circumcision as a coming of age rite for adolescents, not having the advantage of a developing brain which grows beyond any memory of pain.

Many peoples practice scarification, tattooing, dermal piercings, foot binding, head binding, ear lobe stretching, cosmetic surgery, yada yada. No freakin cause for alarm. That is, it is not the undoing of civilization. I don't think cultural practices should be banned but many could safely be abandoned.

There are real medical reasons for circumsision. Imagine that everytime u get an erection your foreskin is too tight that its basically strangling the head of your dick. That's what happens to a lot of.people who aren't circumcised. And I hear its very painful for adults getting circumcised.

I for one am glad as hell I got circumcised as a baby. And ill have the same done to my kids for no religious purposes at all.

Ever hear of female circumcision? Google it. Now THAT is genital mutilation.

Cutting the foreskin off, makes it tighter... not the other way around. I am seriously stunned that even needs to be pointed out to anyone.

Not only have I (seems you dont make it clear who you are talking to) heard of female gential mutilation, I speak out against it the same... just because for some fucked up reason that some people think its okay to do to a male and not a female is beyond me...

They are both mutilation and are wrong.

Oh, and so is any other type of body modification to babies, due to societal, cultural or religious reasons.

Seriously what is wrong with you people... "I just brought a life into this world... let's mutilate it!!!"

No, because it is hygenic and looks better. It is scientifically proven that a person only can remember events going back to when they were three years old, therefore the pain felt by babies is inconsequential because they can't remember it. Ask any circumsized guy if they were traumatized by an event that happened when they were 2 days old. It also has been a practice that has been around for thousands of years spanning the global. Are you going to tell African tribesmen that they cannot practice it?
If I were a guy I would want to be circumcised (At birth of course!)

But that's just my opinion, I don't care what you choose to do or not to do to your kids.

Yes, I will tell anyone that taking a knife to a baby is wrong.

And I don't give a flying fuck how long it has been going on or how many do it, that is not an excuse to do anything.

I had to reply again and quote this... I really want this to stand out...

The underlined part is 100% bullshit... teach your children to wash properly.

The bold part is you saying that it is okay to cut babies up, as long as you think it looks pretty...
