A British company has been caught trying to sell spy software that can hack into any computer to the Mubarak regime. This software was tested by Mubarak's security apparatus, the SSI, and found to be able to hack into Skype, Gmail and Google accounts, it could record audio and video, it could hack into other computers on the same network. It is a trojan virus which breaks most western nations' privacy laws. It raises many questions, including who else have they sold this software too, and what other countries and companies have access to this and similar software. So as many have realized already, none of your accounts are secure on any electronic device. Governments and others can break any encryption on any device (often they demand the encryption keys from the companies that make communication software). Egypt wanted the software to spy on activists. The company claims it never actually sold them the software, although it had already been "tested" by them, meaning they'd already hacked into activists computers. Some activists might have been targeted or even killed as a result of this British company interfering in the domestic politics of a sovereign, yet repressive nation. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/28/egypt-spying-software-gamma-finfisher
Well you know. It they're doing it to them. Then they must be doing it to us. I would bet my retirement fund on that the Bristish and American governments have been using that software or something similar to spy on all of us. Oh well, I guess there is something to be said about using snail mail. ------ V.O.T
Yeah, I've been thinking snail mail is going to make a comeback soon. It may be slow, but more secure, although if someone has already been targeted by the gov't for spying, they'll read your snail mail before you do. What I find funny is that a lot of ppl think Skype is secure. Haha! I knew that was bullshit when I used it. It did all sorts of shit to my computer, or should I say "they" did all sorts of shit... If you want more security, no matter what device you have, you might want to cover up your microphone and video camera if you don't use them. They can be controlled remotely and record all you do and say, without your knowledge. So if you're sitting naked at your computer, someone may be watching you!
The thing is we can't say we weren't warned. There certainly was enough examples in recent history that showed the extent that power hungry peopole were willing to go to. No governement, even our own, has ever hidden the fact that it would like a more "controled" public and that it needed heavy survalience to accomplish it. And large corporations have never hidden the fact they would be willing to sell nukes to mass murderers if the price was right. This nation has had 10 years to take action against our government. But instead we just tuned into Idol or played Farmville while allowing narcisstic noodle heads tell anyone trying to speak out to shut up. In fact, we laughed right along with them because it was all like different versions of "reality-TV." Take note of this prediction. We are soon not going to be a society devided by financial class, religion or even political point of views. We are going to become a society where there will be norms that submit to the techno dictatorship and the marginals. The marginals being those that retreat from technology and go live in the wild away from large populations. ----- V.O.T
I heard about this guy who had loads of child porn on his computer but he had a password on his laptop which was like 50+ characters and the police were unable to hack into it. Is this possible?
If the police were unable to hack it. How do you know he had loads of it on his computer? ------------ V.O.T.
I'm not 100% familiar with the story but basically as far as I am informed he did have it on his computer and was already known for it. Either way it's really not important what i wanna know is having a really long password actually a good way of stopping people getting into stuff.
No You're only going to stop the average shmuck. It wouldn't stop any goverment agency from accessing your computer. -------
Well it took years and years for hackers to hack the ps3 and that's because they made a stupid mistake where they used the same code on every single ps3/psp item which got hacked in the end. I think anything can be hacked as it's only a certain amount of time but i think that time if the security is good enough could be lifelong work. This is off topic anyway so i'll stop now :daisy:
Nah. It's very true that it's never a good idea to keep sensitive information saved electronically though.
I once read a book where Kissinger was quoted having said, "We like to keep a 15 to 20 gap in technology between what we have in case we need it and what the general public thinks we have and what they might be able to get their hands on." ------ V.O.T.
The Marginals may also come to be called Wolverines for when they swoop down from the mountains to pillage and burn and blow up enemy convoys. Rat a tat tat!! Freedom is never free!!
