We envision a world without war, hate, crime, poverty... where people can live in peace and prosperity. We are dreamers looking for others who envision a new world coming and want to be part of it. We live on a forty acre ranch high up in the mountains of New Mexico, far away from the world. We intend the ranch become a place for those who dream good dreams and expect them to happen. We cast our intentions into the quantum field. We believe that people who believe can make a difference. Please visit our webpage, www.placeofrefuge2012.com -- lots of information and pix. Thank you so much for letting me know! Fixed...please try again. I'd love to hear from you. Peace, Shayna placeofrefuge2012.com
Water source? Nearby Scrapyards or at least any old non-running vehicles on the property? Nearest Hardware store (Home Depot, Ace, etc??)
Being a ranch, we have access to several wells, one on our property and one on the next property, as well as others. We also collect rainwater from our roof...got 800 gallons in one rain, that's enough for the three of us for a month. Additionally, while the economy still exists, we can get 2700 gallons delivered here for $200. That's a luxurious 3 month supply. We filter all drinking water with a Berkey filter. Scrapyard? Honey, we don't even have any people nearby! We are 26 miles from paved road. From that paved road, it's about 100 miles to a hardware store. This is way out-rural. It's a lifestyle not suited for everyone. You have to get used to not being able to pop off down to the convenience store whenever. "Supermarket" (3 aisles) is 50 miles away and choice is limited. However, you can actually get to know the owner and you can actually talk with him as if you were both human beings, not automatons who only know how to follow rules set up by some big corporate office. Check out www.placeofrefuge2012.com for more info... Peace, Shayna
Sound's allot like where I was near Tecopa CA. (Not seriously but sort of) Have you Folks looked into Waffle Gardning and Terra Preta yet? / What sort of Gardening Techniques have you been working with in that region? Agreed it's always better to have a relationship with those we buy supplies and sundries from. The hope for a scrapyard is simply cuz' theres so much useful metal to smith into tools or cutlery or whatever and Alternators to pump out 12V with a bit of help from a windmill (or steam turbine or whatever,,,) As far as the water goes, have you thought of putting in any Cisterns for water storage during dry spells? And has anyone there tried experimenting with making "Activated Charcoal" to use in a home built filter, Berkey wont be making parts forever if all goes well right?
Hi, our names are Virginia & Kevin, and we have been preparing to move off-the-grid for over a year. We were planning on staying in the high desert of Arizona, but depending upon where your community is we might be interested in joining you if there are still openings. We are a middle aged couple who are ready to work hard and enjoy the fruits of our labor instead of working hard to make others rich. We have a travel trailer to live in while we build an earth bag home (if allowed), have a nice cast iron wood burning stove for heat and cooking, and all other necessities for building our earth bag home. We also have enough seeds to start a large communal garden, stocked food to last us over a year, hunting equipment (if meat eating is allowed), and protection equipment (in case SHTF), four 55 gallon water storage containers, a first aid kit beyond all expectations, and so much more. We are very loving, compassionate, and open-minded pleople who just want to live in peace, without the drama and chaos associated with traditional city living. We had at first thought about living alone, but realized that we still want the company of like-minded people. We will be ready to move in February or the spring of 2011, since we do not want to run out on our lease. Other than our car, which we are attempting to sell or give back to the dealer, we do not have any debt. While we may not be experienced farmers, we are hard workers, willing to learn, and have some limited knowledge. We would love to talk with you and see if we may be a fit for your community. You can contact us at Virginia.Berling @ yahoo.com 5250 East Duncan Street Mesa, AZ 85205 480.619.0868 Thank you for taking the time to read this and consider us for your community.
Where are you guys at exactly? I used to live in the area, and am just sort of curious - are you north of Taos, like by the Mesa? Or around Questa or Raton or something? Just guesses based on your altitude. Nice area though, and a classic spot for communities attempting to rough it away from society's bullshit, from the 60s to today. Good luck!
Actually, we're further south, in Catron County. A little more laid back than the Taos area. And, yes, it's wonderful to be away from the "world", not to mention away from the grid. We noticed a distinct peacefulness after living here for just a couple of months (it's been two years now). Anyone care to join us? Peace, Dan & Sheila place of refuge2012 dot com
