i love being unique, and i like inspiring people, but this girl i use to be best friends with, it seems like she's trying to copy me to the TEE. i would tell her about my life views and give her advice for stuff, then i see her telling the same things to other people and passing them off as her own views. she started saying the phrases i said, and she tried to get into all of my hobbies too (fortune telling, guitar, ukulele, crafts, etc...) i get that that other people can do what they want, i just don't think it's right that she's trying to do every single thing i do and talk how i talk.... has this happened to anyone else?
i think you're right.... i don't think people should TRY so hard to be unique though. i kind of feel like lady gaga really tries to be so different
...conform to uniqueness. that's what you're doing. no idea is original.. there is a universal consciousness and flow of ideas. be flattered and get the hell over it.
I think it's O.K. if you like a particular characteristic of someone else and want to emulate it, but copying everything about someone and trying to actually be them, is just plain creepy.

my 12 year old copies me. it's because she thinks i'm awesome. i think she's awesome too.. if someone copies you it's because they like you...
^I was going to say the exact same thing! Does that flatter you? Seriously, you're young. People your age are trying to figure out who they are, and the only way to figure out who you are is to expose yourself to different types of ideas, hobbies, styles. Not everything you do is unique. Actually, nothing you do is unique. Someone else inspired you to play the ukelele, or pick up guitar, or learn different crafts. Take it as a compliment. If she tries to put you under the knife and steal your face, then you should be wary. Until then, live and let live.
I feel like I'm the only person in this thread that has seen Single White Female. Being influenced by a person is one thing, but straight out copying someone is like stealing their identity; and it's disrespectful to yourself and to them. Now, of course, it depends on specifics; but CREEEEPYYY
but, this girl's actions aren't negatively effecting the OP in any way. she's not trying to assume her identity, from what i can gather.
They are making her uncomfortable; is that not negative? It's not just about assuming one's identity; it's stealing their market, socially. If someone else is a ukelele-playing fortune teller; it doesn't make you being a ukelele-playing fortune teller as much of a commodity. The same as when a Qdoba opens up and Chipotle gets a location on the same block.
Shit! Where does that leave me as a 20 something white guy with brown hair? I could've swore I had that market all to myself.
this. and plus we've talked about it before and we both said we want to be unique. yet she does this. i swear she knows it gets under my skin because she tries and shoves it in my face what she's doing
i don't anymore! i haven't been talking to her anymore. i'm trying to be as nice as possible about it. and she freaked out when i stopped talking to her as much.
