Hey guys didnt know where to put this but I figured people in this area might have one of these machines. Im looking for one....I have pigs now, and I plant a lot of vegetables. It would be nice to seal them so they can last 6 months of more and I think a vacuum sealer is the answer.

My question is do you guys have any recommendations personal experiences good or bad.

I also plan to plant corn this year, some for silage and some for storage for feed for goats. Anyone with any personal experience and recommendations Id love to hear from you. Ive looked at all the popular machines, both manual and motorized but Id just like to hear from forum members.

I don't think your pigs would take very kindly to a vacuum sealer? Might piss em off a bit? HAHAHA

Get a good dehydrator. Dried veggies last a lot longer than canned, IMO.

Ive got a few dehydrators, I like the ones with no fan for meat because its nice and slow and the ones with a fan for fruits and veg because it dries them out quick.

Ive got 4 pigs now, got to buy a big freezer but Id like to vaccum seal what I do put in there

Very good idea. Far cheaper though slower to do it yourself, compared to buying ready-dried foods.

And once you get the hang of dehydrating you'll find there's a lot of recipes out there for making all sorts of foods from dehydrated foodstuffs. Mixes, powders, homemade instant soups, stuff like that.

So far we have just been canning or freezing, but this year we are going to get a dehydrator and grain mill.

Hopefully we can keep more food with less expense. Never used either so a new exprience is on the way.
