My film “Draculas Neighborhood” presents Balkan highlights from Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia.

It includes dictator Ceausescu’s massive palace, fortified churches and the legend of Dracula, Orthodox Church artistic splendor, a Thracian tomb, folk dancing, Belgrade’s citadel, the destruction of Yugoslavia by Milosevic, Sarajevo’s recovery from civil war, and its splendid old town, Mostar’s landmark bridge, the walled city of Dubrovnik, Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, the Postojna Cave, and scenic Lake Bled.

“Draculas Neighborhood” can be seen on the web, if you a high speed internet connection. This is a free, non-commercial, streaming video on the Windows Media Player. No ads and no strings attached. I sell absolutely nothing.

    My video site is:

The still photo gallery of all six Balkan countries can be viewed with any modem at:

There are over 30 of my other amateur travel videos on-line covering all seven continents. Visit Italy, England, China, Antarctica, Peru, Hawaii, South East Asia, Russia, Mayan Pyramids, American National Parks, Greece, or Turkey; see buffalo, penguins, or polar bears.

I really do work hard to take these videos, often with my guide saying they are permitted, while other people from the venue try to stop me from using the camcorder.

Now you want a choice of which country was my favorite. Being honest, I think Bosnia and Herzegovina best displayed the horrors of this civil war instigated by Serbia's leaders to achieve "ethnic cleansing". I had never seen such war damage until arriving in Sarajevo.

It was probably President Clinton's greatest success to conclusively end this war, using diplomatic and military weapons. Now it seems that nearly every country formerly part of Yugoslavia wishes to join the European Union. I wish them good luck in this quest

I really can't say if you found B&H much interesting bc you are from USA or you are truly objective. Belgrad kept all the buildings bombed by the UN (because the war was backed up by the UN) and they also say a story. I might be subjective in this problem, but I don't like wars because they put together all the people from a country in the same "pool". I have some good serbian friends that regret all that happened and can't be raise responsible for the actions of national extremists, as they do not share their opinions but had much to loose also after this war.
Take us for expl.: not much long ago you blamed blacks almost for everything bad that happened there and just now you have learned to make the difference between good or bad people regardless skin color. It's the same all over the world, it's never right to generalize and say a certain country is bad because a group of people is bad, or that an ethnicity is bad because some of it's representants are bad. Of you have been to Europe you might know the problems here regarding gipsys... witch are also called rroms (romma) and many people confuses them with Romanian people... but we have nothing in common with them, regardless we are stigmatized because a group of people do not understand common sense. And btw, not all gipsys are cosing problems just a bad few... but that's human nature - not to find the bad guys but find say that all of a certain group/country/ethnic are bad.

Sorry, I just got writing and couldn't stop. It would have been nice if you can admire a country/region without taking into consideration the bad history regarding it. Admire the people, the sights, the architecture, the overall feeling... at least that is my way of doing things.

    Black Cat,

In my earlier posts and the video itself I never generalize about people or countries. It should be very clear that I attack leaders, Ceausescu and
    Milosevic by name.

I never blamed Romanians or Serbians, who I consider victims of these two tyrants. Ceausescu was killed by Romanians, and I photographed Bucharest monuments to the revolution, including the names of those murdered by Ceausescu's forces.

Milosevic was turned over to the war crimes tribunal by a new Serbian government, dying before his trial was over. Bosnian Serb leaders still face war crimes charges after being captured, again thanks to a reformed Serbia, which wants to join the European Union.

Walking around central Belgrade, Serbia's capital, I failed to see any evidence of NATO's bombing. Might not have known where to look.
It was very different in Sarajevo and Mostar, so many buildings damaged as if the war had only ended yesterday.

If you could watch the video, which requires a broadband connection, you would see that I did exactly as suggested in your last sentence below.

I understand your point now. I visited bouth a couple of yers back. Belgrad keept it's national television building I think it was and other strategic buildings in the same state as after the bombing.

I might have been carried away bc first I thought that you are stigmatizing, I know now I missinterpreted you. Your pics are nice thow!

Non of the less, all places are good and all people are beautiful if you know where to look!
    Take care ;)
