I live in the southern tip of Illinois about 35 mile or so north of Cairo and we're in the New Madrid Earthquake Fault Zone. We've also had record breaking rainfall and serious flooding the last few weeks. A little after 10:00 last night I start hearing a serious rumble which doesn't sound like thunder and then the whole house starts shaking. Shit! Earthquake I figure... :hide: ... all the damn record breaking rainfall we've gotten over the last few weeks added the presure of weight on the fault line and it broke loose. Yeah I know it doesn't make sense but when the whole place is rattling logic doesn't always prevail. I run down to check my son who woke up from the shaking too. I text one of my other boys to check on him, no, he didn't feel it. Turns out it was the Corp of Engineers blowing up the Birds Point Levee to keep Cairo from completely flooding out. Man that had to be one helluva blast for us to hear and feel it all the way up here. Checked with my buddy next house over and he was watching the blast on TV and 3-4 seconds later felt it. So I wonder how much it would take to trigger that New Madrid Fault. Is that possible I wonder? Oh well, thats my random thought for tonight.
I think it's possible to trigger the fault, I just don't know if it would be enough that wouldn't kill everyone first. Ever see a movie called 10.5? Some freaky shit

when i lived in seattle, we would get trimmers from time to time. of course, the whole west coast of canada and the u.s.a. are part of the ring of fire. we all know what happen in japan a couple of months back! when i first moved to seattle; every time we had a trimmer, it scared me so badly, i feared i would dump a load in my pants! :willy_nilly: after awhile i just learned to live with the trimmers and, the posiblity of an earthquake or two, or three, or four, or...
I live above a bunch of mines and beside a bunch of quarries...it takes at least a 6.o to get my attention... there is one spot of highway nearby that had to be rebuilt due to a transport truck fire carrying explosives...2nd largest blast in the country's history...only one larger levelled Halifax harbour way back when
oh i had caught glimpses of it on the news, i paid it no mind i just thought it was bombs in the middle east. i just thought "oh thats an interesting pattern of explosions" and went on aobut my business. is it sad that i see real live explosions and dont pay them any mind?
