I just about want to kill mine right now. He's been SOOOOO picky all winter. Just doesn't want to eat. I'm just about to give up and get rid of him. UGH!

In winter, snakes' metabolism generally slows down; with warmer weather, it should start eating again. Have you taken it to a vet?

I know that, but ball pythons are still notoriously picky eaters. I didnt take it to a vet because it never stopped eating for more than a month or a month and a half and these snakes can fast for much longer than that. You usually start worrying at about 4-5 months, if they are losing weight. If they are still active, healthy, breathing normally, and the husbandry is fine, then all you can really do it wait patiently for the snake to break fast.

Either way I actually sold this snake and got a baby Hog Island Boa, who is doing awesome. Problem solved!

I've got two, both going on 5 years of age now. Haven't eaten right since I got them in September.

    Aren't ball pythons nucking futs?

Hope you enjoy the boa. Just remember that even the Hog Islands get a little big.

Yeah ball pythons are definetly nucking futs! It's a good snake for someone who wants a snake who's tame no matter what, and alot of people say it's a good beginner snake, but honestly, because of the feeding complications I wouldnt reccomend it to a beginner anymore. I'd tell them to go for a corn snake. I don't have patience for a picky snake haha.

As for my boa, this one is a dwarf so she'll be about 5 feet, 6 tops. I can handle it! She's a little baby right now so I'll get to see her grow.

I own a king snake and have been extremely lucky with her, never refuses food and has never regurgitated. Remember snakes can go months without food, I have a Chilean Rose tarantula and he hasn't eaten in around 10 months. Keep you python warm and hydrated and it should be fine.

Ball pythons often fast during winter, males especially and if you don't maintain your temps well they may try to brumate.

So long as your snake is hydrated, thermoregulating properly and not visibly dropping any weight, I would not worry

About a year ago my snake just would not eat... Which is why I now have a pet rat.... But I think he just decided he didn't wanna eat in his feeding bin.. because he'll take a rat in his cage any day... And no he hasn't bit me because of it... They can be bitches at times.. for a month he wouldn't allow me to pick him up.. hissed every time

Btw... Balls can go up to a year without eating and live through it
