Hi everyone, I'm from Northampton (boo!) and I very recently got so sick of this country that I just can't take it anymore and I've decided to go drifting across the continent for a while. I was hoping people could share their knowledge, experience etc by letting me know any great spots in Europe or any good info or a list of travelling essentials or basically anything that would be of use. So hurry up and be useful, thanks.

I plan to be on foot, won't be completely without money but don't want to use it anymore. I need some survival training or at least knowledge, recommend books to me, please.

I haven't tried this but others have mentioned it:

World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms

for books I can only hazard a guess that Ray Mears has written a few on survival,
but I haven't checked them out. thought his programmes were ok,
though apparently he wasn't averse to slipping off to neck a few pies at the
B&B down the road. good luck and safe journey

Cheers man that WWOOF looks very useful. I doubt I'd get a book by Ray Mears, I'd prefer something smaller and less glossy. Thanks for your help.

generally traveling Europe doesnt mean having to eat raw snakes and beetles or drinking your own urine

Thanks for the couch surfing link, a very interesting idea, maybe a little urban for me. Possibly.

I just got some practice out in the garden, found a beetle but no snake, had to eat a worm instead. Urine wasn't too bad, though next time I will pee in a cup as I could not drink as fast as I pee.

Hmmm about 20 miles I think. I've got a few mates in Northampton who have moved down from Corby. The thought of that place chills my blood.
