I am all about progression and growth as an artist, but sometimes it feels like I'm not in on the joke, or worse yet, part of it. What started out as a new art movement in the early 90's (In the U.S. at least) that was nearly exclusively illegal to participate in and has seen its essence grabbed at and copied in nearly every form of media the last four year (in my opinion, the Barak "hope" image that Fairey did is to blame) Prior to Obama's election, there weren't alot of people out there who actually heard of Shepard Fairey, but when his Obama portrait was on the cover of Time magazine, my grandmother and frat boy friends even knew who he was. So enough, I started seeing more and more Obey shirts (sold at Nordstroms?!? WTF!) and they began to look more and more like a bastard Ed Hardy design (the gaudiest of the gaudy)

I feel like Obey is more of a brand than anything now........not a bad ass artist who throws his stuff up over buildings and signs.

Has the economic success of Theiry Guetta made Shepard Fairey just say "Oh well, to hell with it.......I might as well get PAID!"??????

Is Shepard Fairey Damien Hurst lite??????
