Anybody else read this? It's a collection of diaries from Jim Carroll, frontman of the Jim Carroll Band and prodigous poet, that were written during his time as a street kid in the 1960's, shooting heroin and causing all sorts of mayhem. There's honestly a lot in it the average drug user can relate to (Waiting for dope, getting ripped, etc.) even if you don't happen to play the ol' needle-in-the-arm game. I found it so interesting I've read it twice since I got it last Christmas.

There was a movie made in 1995 with Leonardo DiCaprio and Marky Mark (Flea did the soundtrack). It wasn't particularly good in my opinion. They turned a complex narrative about dirt and passion and turned it into the standard downward-spiral drug use story, with a logical progression from smoking joints in the schoolyard to total heroin addiction. (Jim makes it very clear in the book he tried heroin before ever smoking pot.)

    Thoughts, criticisms?

I want to read the book but haven't gotten around to it yet :/

I did like the movie. But of course I haven't read the book and I have a particular liking for DiCaprio ;)

He died on September the eleventh, which is two days from now.

Besides he looks so excentric, which is no suprise because of his past, but still.
