Does anyone else feel like the wool is beginning to be pulled over the eyes of the street art movement??? It may just be me, but the fact that Thierry Guetta can sell "his" pieces for upwards of $100,000 makes me feel like I need to shower.
No art should be sold, period. You cannot put a price on creation. I hate going to art galleries. The art itself is often fantastic, but when I see the prices on them, I want to vomit. I understand that people want to be able to make a living, but really...hundreds of thousands of dollars for something you can do yourself. Make your own art, hang that on your wall! In my opinion, Guetta is hardly an artist. I do like the movie itself, though I think Guetta is a bit deranged.
Mr Brainstorm is a plagiaristic dick, but you have to commend him for what he did in the film. As a piece of what you might call performance art it was quite impressive, and made a mockery of all the poncy art collectors who spend thousands on shit art just because it has kudos. I thought it was a good film. I follow Mr Brainstorm on facebook and a while back he posted something promoting some new "art" of his, which he was trying to sell for stupid money. I made a couple of facetious comments and he banned me from his group LOL I'm back on though, but he wont let me post anything. I emailed him and said sorry that I didn't mean anything, I was just trying to be funny and he responded saying ok but we have to keep comments like that off the facebook page... uhuh yeah so people don't realise that his work is about as original as my Mum's living room wallpaper. I responded and invited him to feel free to plagiarise any of my work LOL
Heard it's a kinda annoyingly commercial movie. Those price tags are the reason there's any money in making the movie, I guess. At my upcoming graffiti trial, maybe I'd have better luck if I pretended I actually did the graffiti in question, and handed the city a bill for 600k, 100k for each of my 6 charges
