One of my first thoughts was... yeah, some dick is going to come cut you down...

Then, the idea of having memorial forests drifted in...

Although they would still take up as much (maybe more) room then a conventional cemetary would, it would be doing so with something we need... more trees.

The costs of maintenance would be almost zero compared to a conventional cemetary... instead of needing to dig huge ass holes, you only need to dig enough to plant the urn.

Toss a couple of solar powered robot lawnmowers into them and we can wander amongst our ancestor trees...

edited to add... you would want to put little protective barriers around the newly planted dead to keep the lawnmower from eating them...

Reminds me of How High, when Silas(Method Man) combines his friend's ashes with some soil and grows some weed.

Tom, that sounds awesome...having a "memorial forest" so-to-speak. Especially with rising costs of burying someone. For my father's funeral, we spent $7,000 which is steep, but it would have been another $8,000 if we decided to bury him.

lol I thought of that too hahaha

    Wow that's expensive.

I'd like to become a tree alot more than I'd like to be buried thats for sure.

you could just put the ashes in the soil your using to plant a new tree or whatever.. instead of putting it in a seed starter thing..

That's true, Earth. If anything, that's what I would do instead of buying something separate. They even have those seed starter pots that disintegrate in the ground when you plant them. So, making your own would be very easy.

You could sell 'plant rings' to go around the urns... the cost of each would depend on the plants you wanted of course, but it will be years before the tree is anything to see, so have seed rings that you can put around each spot in the spring time.

Just go in, pull the old one out, trim the grove where it came out, drop a new one in and water... up springs a circle of flowers/plants marking the spot as the tree grows.

As for costs, the biggest cost won't change, that being the actual cremation... wether or not you buy an urn like this, make your own, or dump the ashes in the hole when you plant the tree is really besides the point.

lol, hell... you could have it set up so that when someone dies, their body is taken to the grove (without being pumped full of crap or painted like a clown), burnt on a pyre, with the ashes turned into the soil, and planted with flowers and the tree...

But...I wouldn't be a tree...I'd just have a tree's roots going all through me. I can't accept this idea until they can find some way to cross my DNA with a seed so there is a me tree. Complete with me fruits and a squirrel.

As your ashes break down and are absorbed by the roots of the tree, you will become part of the tree.

If you want, we could always forget the burning part, shove a seed up your ass and bury you...

What if it makes you be reincarnated as a tree, instead of your consciousness entering another plane of existence?
