Just wondering if anyone is out at their job and how is that going for them? I live in the deep south and have been out for a few years and it's going just fine. I'm one of those androgynous types that likes guys clothes most the time so people wondered about me in the first place anyway... One of my nicknames is 'he-woman'. I bet it's harder for femmes to be out at work.
Ish....One of my supervisors knows, and my manager is aware but hasn't comprehended it entirely yet...A few of my equals know as well.
Out and I guess I'm what you would consider femme. I work in NYC and its been so so coming out at work. Everyone knows lesbians, but for some reason they find it weird if you're gay and they think you're straight by the way you look. I've learned to let it go and live my life. I've been there for years and people still ask me about my bf?????
I've been fired for being gay. I tried to sew but there are no laws supporting the glbt community in Florida. Ever since I just keep quiet unless someone asks then I will tell them.
Miami? An arts and party city of all places... I know federal jobs and some states have passed anti-discrimination laws on sexual orientation and there is this bill trying to go through again as of last month: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_Non-Discrimination_Act
I hate that this forum says for gays (only) because I always see a thread I want to weigh in on. I'm gonna weigh in anyways, sorry I'm from the deep south and I've never really noticed a problem with lesbians or gay men coming out at work. I've worked in several places with openly gay people and no one ever seemed to have a problem with it. I like that. Most people wouldn't expect that kind of open-mindedness from the south. And I'm really shocked that there aren't laws in Florida to protect you, Mayqueen. You could have always taken it above state court to federal if you really felt like fighting that hard. Okay, thats all. My straight ass is leaving now...
Thanks for your response. I think that warning is there just b/c a lot of men fetishize lesbian sexuality and might try to pose as a woman or something like they do on other sites. I remember reading somewhere that despite the connotations, past and it's current conservatism, the south is actually where the most biracial and homosexual residents/families are located.
