Every time I try to fry something in a pan like stir fry, or bake anything like a frozen pizza or fish fillets, the smoke detector goes off. That is of course unless I turn on two oven fans and the air conditioning. And sometimes I need to open the window just to be sure. The sounds of the smoke detector are a very high pitched ossicle shattering scream, followed by a woman's voice yelling "Fire! Fire!"

There's nothing I can do about it either.

I live in a really small apartment in a downtown city. I can't move or replace the smoke detectors. Who's bright idea was it to stick a smoke detector a two feet away from the stove?

Fire safety is important but this is overkill and it really pisses me off.

Are you sure you can't replace the smoke detector?

You may be able to contact your landlord about it.

We have problems with that too, but usually the microwave vent fan will do it; when we forget it though, then we gotta fan towels at the detector for a while to get it to stop.

I often hear my neighbors' smoke detectors going off quite frequently too; they're having similar problems as me, clearly. It isn't that the smoke detector is defective at all either, they work fine and they had them all updated 3 months ago.

I could talk to my leasing manager about it. But I don't think she is going to change anything.

I think I need to just break the damn thing and try to cover it up.

find a lightweight plastic container that is big enough to cover the smoke detector.. use Blu/Sticky tack around the edge of the container... stick it over the smoke detector making an airtight seal

don't forget to remove it after ya finished cooking in case of a real fire :mickey:
