Just throwing the idea out there..Have had my most intense 4-AcO-DMT trips when having consumed a dose of around 500mg L-Tryptophan. I don't know if it contributed to the effects at all, but it's certainly worth further testing. Has anyone else here experimented with such combos?

Not personally, but L-trypt is a precursor to 5-HTP, which is the precursor to serotonin. Many people take 5-HTP before/after trips to potentiate or recover after trips. L-trypt can be found naturally in many foods we eat, but 5-HTP is not found naturally in food.

I have a very unnatural sleep/wake pattern due to being a night-shift worker and have been using small doses of 5-HTP for awhile now. Helps. Is also supposed to be good for people with mild depression, better than prozac.

Isn't tryptophan in turkey? So I could eat turkey and potentiate my chems?

It's a basic nutrient required for human life as a building block for many things, including serotonin. Any effect it has will be secondary and likely mild. It's found in practically all food. I don't really buy into the whole 5-HTP and co. theories, they sound great on paper but in reality the stuff will irritate your GI tract and is only related to the chemicals of importance (serotonin) by quite a long chain of relation. It would be like trying to make a city's freeways more efficient by giving every car owner 50lb of tire grade rubber in a vat.

It's in most foods that contain protein.

Potentiate? I doubt it. But turkey is pretty healthy so in that respect, a healthy GM is apt to have better trips. :sunny:

I have to take issue with that statement. We all respond differently to these things but, I will tell you that for several months I had a MAJOR change in my life from 5HTP. Again, disclaimer. I have a totally messed up sleep/wake cycle due to working nights. BUT... for some time the effects I had were, falling asleep faster, waking up with no alarm clock after less sleep and feeling more energetic, and a slightly better attitude due to feeling more rested.
That said, the magic has worn off as I feared it would, I only take it once every few days due to concern that I could get "addicted" to it, or crash hard if I didn't have it. I think my baseline today is only slightly better than before I discovered it. I can't say for anyone else but for me, at first I thought it was a miracle substance. It was dramatic.
As for the original topic, I don't think it potentiates trypts, I haven't done an experiment like trying with and without at the same dose, but that's just my opinion.
I'd say if you want to potentiate... take a lil more :)

5-HTP does actually work for sleep, but not through it's relation with serotonin, rather through its relation with melatonin, the sleep chemical. My comments only pertained to the serotonin relationship, for potentiating psyches and such. Good to know it works so well for sleep though.

Ah, I didn't see that connection. I've not read about that relationship, I should :)

I'd have to agree, we all respond differently but I think it would be hard to quantify a difference in trips w/5-HTP. 5 or 10mg more of this or that certainly will have that result tho :)
