Actually I'm an American which is probably nearly the same. I've been sitting in the UK for a while with people that are worthless for information..I mean I love them, I do, but they never leave the house and don't know a damn thing about their own country except how to walk to the shops. So I have questions lol I'm going to be getting a vehicle here so I can travel the rest of Europe..or parts of it anyway... What the hell should I know? How many taxes do I have to pay on what? What am I most likely to get pulled over for? Do the main roads really turn to unmaintained hell if you go too far east in Europe (or are my couch potatoes confused by what they've seen on tv?)? Are going to rainbow gatherings here (I'm thinking the Spain one this summer) the police filled nightmares they are in the US? If I park on the side of the road and sleep in the bus (assuming I'm buying a vehicle that looks like a bus) can I expect a ticket of some sort? Communities , communities... Where are they, do they have internet access, veggie gardens, and enough of a heart to let us visit if we're useful? I'm sure there's more...but seriously any advice will do. I'm so incredibly stumbling over my own feet.
Ok if you want a vehicle in the UK, be prepared to pay: Insurance, road tax, and possibly MOT. It is not uncommon for insurance to cost more than the vehicle (no joke)... Also a British vehicle will be designed to drive on the left hand side of the road, most EU countries drive on the right.... Have you looked into inter railing? http://www.raileurope.co.uk/Default...ogle_adwords&gclid=CIeZiMKeiKkCFYFB4QodFGL9iQ Might end up cheaper / easier... Rainbow gatherings? What are they? Hippy festivals? Spain is pretty laid back about drugs etc in my experience. They won't give a shit about weed (they smoke mainly hash over there, direct from Morrocco, so it's good stuff)... You are most likely to get pulled over for speeding, depending which country you are in, and again, tickets etc will depend on which country you are in. Eastern European countries will probably be a bit more relaxed on the law of the road, but may be much stricter with drugs, again, it depends. Europe is a massive place, each coutry has its own views / values / traditions etc, so do some research before taking any risks. Have fun, be safe, hope that helped a bit :sunny:
Yuck, an American on our forum! Jokes... Actually I have been wondering the same thing as I intend to do some travelling soon, except without a vehicle. If you need a passenger give me a shout. It's really really hard to find out about communes and cool gatherings on the continent, it would seem. It might be worth buying the car once yo get over to the continent, it would be MUCH cheaper and then you'd get a right-hander. I think only Britain, Japan aand New Zealand drive on the left.
