    It's good, but no, I don't either =P

Strong vocabulary and long sentences are the main similarities I see.

I don't feel like reading the whole thing right now, but I like it so far and might give you a critique later =D

I love Lovecraft! He was heavily influenced by Edgar Allan Poe.

Yeah, David Fincher is a great director. Not to mention Ed Norton and Brad Pitt are brilliant in that movie as well. That may actually be one of the few movies that was better than the book. But back on topic. I posted a poem of mine in the poetry section, and would love to hear what you guys think.

I'm jealous! Unless you only got it because your work was about underage girls.

I've only read his short stories, but I'd say his skill varies.

I think he's generally terrible. I coped with The Green Mile and the novella of The Shawshank Redemption, but that was in spite of a wobbly writing style, because the story was good enough. I tried a lot of his other stuff and I couldn't stomach it. They sounded like projects I did at school in my teens.

I would say his prose in general is very bland, but sometimes it can still be pretty effective (like in Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption)

Personally, I can't do bland prose too well, I get bored too easily; but Orwell is a legend despite writing like an old text book.

Me too. Seems like a lot of the results have that as the answer. I've never read Lovecraft, but I am a big fan of E.A. Poe!

I tried again and got Daniel Defoe.

This thing seems fake to me. There's only a limited # of authors, probably all listed in one file that it chooses from, apparently random?

Do yourself a favour Skip and read 'At the Mountains of Madness' by Lovecraft. It's a great horror/sci-fi kind of story. The main character sails to Antarctica where he and his team discover a mountain taller than any known on Earth. Later they encounter alien life forms there.

Metallica wrote a song based on the story called 'The Thing That Should Not Be'.

It's told me that I write like E.A.P and Lovecraft a few times now.

hp lovecraft and the method of having a hero deliver a monologue, while simultaneously being eaten

but yeah, everyone should digest at least a few of his stories ... and most of them are free online :sunny:

I think he's generally pretty great at conceptualizing stories, but most of them fall flat when put on paper. I think The Shining is one of the greatest ideas for a horror story ever, but I had to force myself to finish that book. His writing style is extremely bland and formulamatic.
