It used to have some sort of meaning and I had true passion and desire to do things. As I get older (I'm 20) it's only getting worse and I've felt this way for years, but it's gotten worse over the last couple. I wouldn't say I feel "unhappy". I do get some enjoyment out of life but it just doesn't feel real truely meaningful. For instance, I once really wanted to travel and the very thought sent me over the edge. Now it's something I'd like to do only because I believe I may find meaning like I once did. It feels like life is full of meaningless things I'm doing simply to fill up time. Over the last year I've had some big changes happen which I thought might "wake me up" so to speak but I feel no different. Does anyone relate?
They say late teens-early 20's is when you are at your highest risk of depression and suicide and then another peak again at around 70's so you should grow out of it.
:grouphug: i remember my early 20's was hard.. it gets better. things change and people change, it's all part of being human.
The only meaning the world has for you is the meaning you give it. Your life will consist of a series of sensations, some of which you may call pleasant and some not so. Some you will call peak, and some not so. Some may agree with you and some will not, and we find those most agreeable, whom we agree with.
I'm only 15 and sometimes life feels meaningless and pointless and just boring really. I'm gonna try and get a job soon now I only have like one day left at school. I can't sit around doing nothing all the time *dies*
I ask myself, could life POSSIBLY have any meaning? My life, human life, organic life Reproduction, survival, consumption, decay, logic, reason, emotion' civilization Could it really NOT be a meaningless and temporary biological mass? I can never answer this question... what COULD be the meaning be? It would be an easy answer were I Christian; the meaning of life is to honor god I'm not well-read on philosophy You can choose your outlook. Your whole existence lives in your brainpiece Embrace love, seek joy, touch, taste, smell, live
Cause its fun/feels good/ is rewarding/ will add to the experience of life.. I mean, sometimes a blunt is simply a blunt, no reason behind it other than to get you baked. :ssmokeit: The only thing on this earth with deeper meaning is a work of art, other than that most things have meaning, just not as deep and philosophical. Like eating a sandwhich, it's simply delicious and allows you nutrients. Or masturbating, What a meaningless act! All it does is relieve you of sexual tension, it doesn't give you a sense of love or doesn't allow you to breed! In my opinion doing things for the sake of cause and effect is what it's all about. Because ever since you were born, you've been dying. And it's time to start living! But if you absolutely must live for something, Live for love. I know it sounds cheesey, but we all live for each other, it's just a human sort of thing...
So then you're living for pleasure. Life isn't meaningless for you. Here's something for the OP to try: If you feel life is meaningless, can you live with it? Just live a few days knowing life is meaningless, and not rejecting or accepting or searching. Can you do it? Not many can. See what happens.
Love? I believe that love is when you forget about yourself and start thinking of others. It's selflessness in the fullest form, it applies to all things. I also believe that you are strongly attached to something you love. Here is love in its truest form. BEHOLD Some may argue it's a chemical process that can be replicated.. but I know this is wrong. Ecstasy produces the same effects as being lovestruck... which is just like the first fluttery... crazy... weird feeling you get when you fall in love. That feeling I do not like, mainly because if someone doesn't love you back...... it hurts so fucking bad. But love in general is just something you have to open up your mind to.
Exactly how I feel, man. But, I'm a year older than you. I know when school's over I'll spend way too much time on here. Fuck, I need a life.
Good advice from blissfullyaware. If you're unsure of what love is, think of it as service. Start by being of service to somebody. You don't have to love the person; just start helping, start giving.
I consider life meaningless, but I don't allow that to make me unhappy. I am just lucky to be a member of a species who can think about things and learn about things. I choose to make the best of it.
