That's what I thought, Fingermouse. I've gotten neg repped a few times for stating simple, non-offensive opinions. Like "oh you're favorite color is red? Well mine's blue, so here's a neg rep"

I think, *for the most part* we are all pretty mature on here and we should resolve our differences and arguments privately with each other. If we still disagree, then agree to disagree without prolonging fights

I doubt there has ever been a time when I have neg repped someone for a post where I have not also posted my opinion about it in the thread.

I wouldn't swear to that, but I usually try not to...

Why should people who have only met online in a public forum, resolve issues privately?

Well a few reasons...thread-hijacking, people don't wanna see it, and threads can go on forever if people disagree...trust me, I've had 11-12 page long arguments with people in threads

K, on that last part... are you really thinking you have to convince me that can happen? roflmao

    On the first...

I love how people shout out catch phrases... openess, honest communication, transparency and so on, and then suggest we should keep some things hidden because they are unpleasant.

When the government said, we don't want to show the bin laden pictures because they are unpleasant... I didn't see everyone quiet down and say... "oh, they're not pleasant? In that case I don't want to see them"... lol

Do you want to foster honest and open communication, or do you want to foster pleasant conversation? You can't have both, no matter what you may wish for.

Tom, I love the honest and open communication that is this forum...but there are plenty of instances where arguments happen and next thing you know, the argument is off-topic, then it gets personal, and then the thread is closed and mods might ban someone. If we end the arguments BEFORE a mod steps in and shuts it down and the argument is escalated into other threads, then it'll make things easier.

Like if you and I got into an argument in a thread and you started personally attacking me for not liking your opinion and you called me fat and ugly and whatever, I'd much rather send you a personal message asking why you reacted that way then to drag it on in the thread where other people are responding to the topic at hand.

If I make no sense, I'm sorry...it makes sense in my head but I'm overdosed on alka seltzer right now, so I might be a bit foggy...

Come on... If we censor ourselves before they do, we will have honest open conversations?

... hold on... where's that icon...

if people want to settle things between themselves, and ultimately, come to a agreement - i can't see that as a bad thing by any means at all.

Exactly. And I only think it should happen when fights reach a point where it gets personal and off-topic.

EDIT: with exception of Random Thoughts...because, well, it's random.

If two people have a public disagreement over something, and then resolve it privately, it encourages nothing but disagreeable public conversation that is meant to do nothing but blow smoke up each others ass until someone farts...

True conversation IS conflict resolution... why would we hide that part of the conversations?

Which part of this do we want others to learn something from? That people can disagree, or that they can resolve issues... openly and honestly?

What type of world do you want to live in?
