My Miami Beach Weekend For the last 10 years, Memorial Day weekend on Miami Beach has been inundated with young black ppl for Urban Beach Week, in town for Hip Hop music events, drinking and partying. Group Grind Dance on Sidewalk There have been ruf spots over the years, from rowdy young blacks needing to be arrested, to young blacks being profiled and harassed by the cops. But for the past couple of years it has been mellower. The news said there have been 431 ppl arrested this year (66 felony-365 misdemeanor). Out of a quarter million visitors, that's not so bad. And, while the local residents complain about it, the local hotels, bars, restaurants and boutiques enjoy the business. Hey, this is Miami Beach, not Mayberry. This is what we're here for. Anyhow, yesterday it was a bright, sunny day on SoBe so I biked down just to hang out and see all the big booty girls in Bikinis walking down Ocean Drive. Bathing Suits on Ocean Drive Saw some interesting looking young black ppl, most of them with tats or even branding. Guy with Omega Brands Everyone seemed to be having a good time while I was hanging out on Ocean Drive Big Booty Girls Posing
Sizzle Miami Along with Urban Beach Week, is Sizzle Miami, an Urban gay event where gay men and women of color also come here to party and celebrate. That means our Clothing Optional Beach at Haulover Park was a logical place to be on this beautiful sunny day. Now not many of the black gay crowd were nudists. Concession Stand line with 1 Nude White Butt But they did show a lot of bod in their small swim suits. And, in case you didn't know, I got a thing for African beauty, particularly young buff men. So today the beach was just full of eye candy in my favorite flavor. Here are some pics: Group of Buff Guys Two Buff Guys with Tats Cute Couple These two were so into each other walking along the beach holding hands. Anyhow, having gotten my two hours of sun I had to leave as crowds of gorgeous ppl were still coming to the beach at 3:00. It was a fun day
Well, I wrote too soon. This morning in the dark hours, when a lot of us older folks were sleeping, SoBe became a war zone and it has made national news at least on CBS. Oh, well. "One killed, seven injured during police-involved shootings on South Beach Four bystanders were shot and three officers wounded on South Beach Monday morning in a deadly police-involved chase and By David Smiley MiamiHerald.com A police chase and firefight on the streets of South Beach Monday morning ended with officers shooting into an occupied car on Collins Avenue and killing the driver, bringing a bloody conclusion to Miami Beach’s annual Memorial Day weekend parties. By 5:30 a.m., police were investigating two officer-involved shootings. One alleged gunman was dead, four bystanders were wounded — possibly by police gunfire — and three officers were being treated at Mount Sinai Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. None has been named by police. Club and bar hoppers in town for the massively popular Urban Beach Week scattered and screamed as gunshots followed after the weaving car. Some on the relatively empty stretch of Collins Avenue jumped behind cars or into bushes as shots grew closer and louder." There is renewed talk of stopping Urban Beach Week, just as Fort Lauderdale finally ended their infamous Spring Break of drunk frats raising hell and often killing themselves falling off balconies or doing some other stupid shit.
Urban Beach Week SoBe May 26, 2012 by Shale After the police shootings on Collins Avenue last Memorial Day morning that killed one alleged gunman and injured four bystanders in the barrage of bullets, likely fired by the police, it was an embarrassment for Miami Beach and all the various police departments involved. Part of the rowdiness after that shooting was actually perpetrated by the police who were accused of stealing cell fones from citizens who had been recording their actions. Shooting the perp could probably be called justified but stealing ppls cameras is the action of a police state - and Miami Beach has proven over and over again that it has a third world police department. (Harassing gay men in a park - while the guy was talking to a 911 dispatcher, drinking on duty, drunken joyriding on duty and running over tourists on the beach, speeding along the dunes in a patrol car, etc. makes that accusation hard to deny). Anyhow, there was talk going on all year as to how the Urban Beach Week an unplanned and therefore uncontrolled event could be stopped. Legally, it can't. The complaints of the residents notwithstanding, this is a tourist city and we can't be selective of who tours here. (It would be like New Orleans closing down the city for Mardi Gras). Police Tower on Ocean Drive So, begrudgingly the city made all these contingency plans for an increased police presence, cracking down on the slightest infractions and having a community outreach campaign, 'Respect the Scene' that was endorsed by a couple of Miami Heat players. Peace Keeping Volunteers I went walking along Ocean Drive on Saturday and as with last year, there were all sorts of fine women in swim wear and high heeled shoes strutting their stuff. Even an old grampa can enjoy an eye-candy treat. Fine Ladies on Ocean Drive
Fine Ladies on Ocean Drive There was a big-bosomed girl doing a foto shoot for Black Candy Scents who posed for a pic. Black Candy Fragrance Promo Shoot IDK what that scent is because I don't like artificial fragrances but I have enjoyed black candy scent, if you know what I mean. One thing I did notice, and maybe it was because it was Saturday but the crowds didn't seem as large this year. Could be the terrible weather we had up 'til Thursday morning, but it had cleared by afternoon and was perfect for the three day weekend. Or it could have been many ppl may have heard of the shooting last year and the chaos and just didn't want to come fight with the pigs. Also, you may think I've gone str8 since I only got pix of women, but I found the women more approachable and most of the guys were posturing their thug image so I just didn't wish to intrude. However, there was one guy I approached and asked if I could get a pic of his Scorpio tat, which was really dynamic. I would like to have one like that but my arm isn't as dynamic as his. Scorpio Tat
Sizzle Miami - Haulover Beach May 27, 2012 I went to Haulover Beach to see the ppl here for Sizzle Miami, the event for gay men of color. Of course this is our clothing optional beach, which also has a lot of gay males in the north end. While I was naked as usual, a lot of the out of town black guys were not, just coming to the beach for the social occasion, not for the all over tan. I did see Felton whom I met last year; recognized him by the garrison cap (Yeah, I know its other name, I was in the service). Felton & Houston Even got in the pic with Felton and Houston (I carry a Bikini just for foto ops on the beach). There was the usual cute couple. And group of friends - guys just enjoying being with other guys out in the sun. So many gorgeous black guys out there filling the scenery (Black girls are nice - but ya know my preference). This Urban Beach Weekend has gone off without a hitch (If the face-eating Zombie that was shot and killed in Miami on Saturday afternoon was not involved with it). The evening news on Monday confirmed that there were no major problems this year and that there were fewer crowds than last year.
