Couple things I've noticed: -I always take the senior discount -The clinic usually lets you in without waiting, especially if you have a chest problem -I am damn happy to wake up every morning
What I've enjoyed as the years are creeping up on me is more and more comfort in saying "I don't know" and not feeling like it's a shortcoming Youth often is CERTAIN of so much that they have no idea about. I always say "Learning more and knowing less everyday"
Ooh and to be honest, sometimes I just see a grumpy-ass old person, but that's just because some older folks really seem to enjoy being grumpy.
shale, i like that little saying of yours re: growing up vs. growing old. i would like to know if i may use it in the formation of my little group, school of radical creative anarchists (hoffmanites). peace, paisley.
Hey I stole it - you'll only be an accessory after the fact. It's gotta be in the public domain. IDK who originated it.
The best thing about being older for me is feeling vindicated! When I was a young hippie chick, I was continually being told, "You'll regret this when you're older" and "You won't feel that way when you're 30!" I was right and "they" were wrong....now THAT feels good! (She says with quite childish glee!)
Same here. "You'll never get a girlfriend growing that beard" (got GF and BF with this beard ) "You'll die if you don't eat any meat" (Still here and not obese - haven't eaten meat since 1970.) "You could get a much better paying job" (Right Livelihood ) I've done alright over the years.
That long walk in the desert. yes! We're having the same memories. i raised 4 children alone and whatever I don't remember [ahem] they have all the details. Some are good and some not so good. I am retired now and have all the time in the world to wander, paint, read and seek out new friends. I am a full time RVer, living in our fifth wheel and travelling around the country. I run into so many beautiful aging hippies and it is always good to laugh about the good times. Woodstock, concerts, and all the political organizations we have supported. I am still a blue jean/T-shirt/sandals type and love the freedom that comes with wisdom. Peace to you and love
Ain't that the truth! LOL ... I'm getting second-hand glee from it, too There are a couple of fellows on hipforums who do the same thing. It wouldn't be my cup of tea, I don't think, but it sounds so adventurous
Lets see, I like being able to say my piece and not having to worry about being politically correct. I love the fact that I'm soon going to be a great grandfather. I adore the fact that my children are happy that I'm spending time with someone special. But I'm a little upset that I lost my license.
long time friends-and really well and truly not giving a fig about stranger's opinions! I'm a 55 yr old dude, love cats,VW buses, motor scooters and fivefinger shoes. Laugh if you like!
I have credibility. I can walk into any restaurant and just use the bathroom. The young workers, think I probably need to use the br, before I eat. I thank them and walk out. Maybe I did and maybe I didn't see the sign, 'no public bathrooms'. for years I had to press the wrinkles out of clothes for work. Now I don't iron anything. I have a sage green/khaki brown tie dyed sheet. I love to hang out to dry. Young people always comment on my tattoos. They think my hair is colored, it went from black to grey and now it is white and long. I tell them it is natural and they think I colored it that color. Life now is thinking about grandchildren, mammograms, mixing a batch of chai tea. Since I live in campgrounds as a full time RVer, I meet so many people. It is like a reunion, when I run into other hippie's. We always connect right away. We're drawn together and usually visit until one of us moves on. I wish honestly an entire caravan of gypsies would pull in today.
And maybe puttering in the yard, sitting in the morning sunshine, waving to the students on their way to their university classes. Maybe even smiling and joking with the young people in the coffee shop who think it's funky that someone my age would bring in her laptop and get online, too.
