rf1: My 84-year-old father-in-law is a veteran of WWII. He served in the US armored division under Patton, helped liberate a POW camp in Germany, and carries a permanent souvenir - embedded shrapnel - which earned him a Purple Heart.

rf2: My stepson started his US motorbike tour early this morning. His plan is to be on the road for the next three months or so.

 

In a way.. yes. I luckily wasn't part of it on Friday, just had to work with the person afterwards which was hard enough.

Not so random fact - I have a feeling, that if I see my manager in the morning, and all things go well - I will be having some strong words with her. (Of course these are British strong words, so they will be all jolly and pleasant, over tea and biscuits)

 

This reminds me of working with my boss in Illinois some years ago. One time he called me into his office and talked and talked for about ten minutes before it dawned on me that I was being reprimanded. I analyzed his handwriting and it showed rigid emotional control. However his last name was French - though I suppose a lot of French names come here by way of some British ancestry.

We Americans prefer the sledge hammer approach to human relations. :2thumbsup:

 

There's an annoyed little bird sitting outside my window. Whenever the birdfeeder runs out of food he starts pounding on the window with his feathers all ruffled. Smart little thang.
