Kid's birthday parties outside at the park are my favorite way to go. Plenty of room to get rowdy and make noise.

We just attended a really cool party last week at the local archery range, though it was more for the six and up ages. After a fifteen minute lesson from the instructor, the kids had a blast launchig arrows at targets. It was a party that required constant parent alertness though.

Another I've enjoyed is a party at the local ice skating rink. Not free, but reasonable.

i think a park b-day sounds fun. you could set up some outdoor games. depending on the number of kids of each age group, and i'm not great with little kids' activities, but for everybody over 5 you could set up some horseshoes, volleyball, soccer, get a pinata, do some kind of relay race (egg on a spoon or something, spin around three times and then try to run in a straight line) stuff like that would be really fun i think. also depends on how many people there are too though...

Yes I agree that an outdoor party is ideal for kids ranging 3-17 years old. Kids beloning to this age bracket can be restless and very active. For sure they'll enjoy competitive outdoor games like sack race and obstacle relay.
