I'm really hoping that with Halloween coming up soon someone might have an idea or two. My son wants a birthday party - a GROSS birthday party. I found a recipe for a "kitty litter cake" that looks just awful, and have several other rather disturbing recipes. And we're thinking we'll probably make a few "mad scientist" type snacks in the kitchen together... everyone coming is a budding cook/chef so that'd be a ton of fun for them. And I was going to look into picking up some bug-infested suckers & stuff like that from the science museum; little things, but nasty stuff for the kids to bring home.

But does anyone have any gross, nasty decorating ideas? He's going to be 11 so "a little icky" isn't going to be good enough for him. He said he doesn't want scary, but rather the "grossly disturbed" effect.

I'm looking at having 7-8 grossed-out guests in my home in just under 5 weeks.
    love,
    mom

well, this may not be gross enough, but my mom makes a "dirt pie" that is absolutely delicious. garnished with gummy worms and bugs, it could be icky ish.
i found this recipe, which is similar to mom's: (she doesn't use the powdered sugar, and she uses pre-crushed oreo crumbs)

    1 (8 oz) cream cheese
    1/2 cup margarine
    1 cup powdered sugar
2 (3 oz) instant French Vanilla Pudding
    3 1/2 cup cold milk
    1 (12oz) Cool Whip
    1 package Oreos

At room temperature mix the cream cheese, margarine, powdered sugar. In a separate bowl, beat until thickened, pudding and milk. Then fold in Cool Whip and mix with cream cheese mixture.

    Crush the Oreos.

In a large bowl, make several layers, of the Oreos and then the cream cheese mixture.
make sure the Oreos form the top "dirt" layer

also, check out sites like this one: http://www.orientaltrading.com/

good luck. sounds like a fun party!

    peace.

you could have a "guess the organs game" Using cocktail franks (intestines) and cold noodles (brains) lychees (eyeballs) etc. You have to be blindfolded and guess what they all are. :) This game is great for giggles

I dont know if theyre available in the US but here we have lollies in all sorts of wonderful things, bugs and aliens and stuff.

Jelly makes all things look gross.

I think perhaps the answer is gonna be food colouring.

as for decorating.... bandages with red dye on them. lots of green matter hanging from the celing. dark greenish lighting. Fake bugs and snails and slugs. I mystery box with 'yukky' stuff inside... you know, food , wet sponges and stuff like that... Slime... lots of slime, which can be made out of flour and water with food dye.

    Skulls and plastic bones.

Oh my gosh... a friend suggested looking up Fear Factor ideas, and now he's changed his mind. He wants a FEAR FACTOR birthday. And I've gotta admit, I'm finding a ton more COOL, INEXPENSIVE and truly awesome ideas for this than I had been finding for the gross party! He is so excited. We're working now on coming up with as many challenge ideas as we can for a creepy challenge, a gross-food challenge, and a physical challenge. I told him he could help brainstorm, but that Dad & I would make the final plans... so it's a surprise even to him.

He is SO excited :) And I've gotta admit, this is looking cool to ME too!

So how did the party turn out? Fear Factor birthday party sounds exciting and new to me. I can imagine a lot of crazy challenges were incorporated in the party. It's good to know that people like you guys are so cool which makes me wish that during my teen years, my parents and I were as creative as you are!

A friend of mine tried this recipe and on top, she placed a cookie that she baked which looked like the plants from the video game Plants vs. Zombies. This video game would also make a fun theme for a party! With lots of brains and gore.
