When catching night crawlers for fishing bait, drop them in sandwich-size plastic bags. Easy to carry, won't spill, and for some reason, the crawlers don't try to escape. It's like they go dormant. At the end of the night, just seal the bag and pop it in the fridge. The next morning, you have chilled but super lively crawlers.

To quickly check if the fish you catch meet the legal minimum length for keeping, measure that length from the rod butt up the rod and wrap a piece of electrical tape there. Use different color tapes for measuring different fish.

When jigging for giant fish, the PR knot is just about as close as you can come to a connnection that retains 100 percent line strength. This is certainly not one of the eaisiest knots to tie, requiring the assistance of a fly-tying tool known as a thread bobbin.

Just flatten the hook's barb with pliers.

From a hens and small jakes tend to make the best yelpers. The smaller the bone, the sweeter the sound.

Keep deer urine in refillable spray bottles to dispense controlled amounts.

Get a chart and look for areas with structures that also have grass beds nearby. They like ledges, coral heads, channel bank mud or sand holes, undercut rock, pock-marked limestone bottom and water temperature between 79 and 83. Put someone on a diving planer and when you find them drop the hook to get everyone in the water. The regular season is Aug. 6- Mar. 31 with a bag limit of 6 per person per day.

Wahoo are notorious for feeding heavily just before and after a full moon when strong outgoing tides flush large volumes of forage off shallow banks and into deeper water. With a full moon rising, swordfishermen know to set their baits deeper in the water column. When a front is approaching or just after one has passed, it's a good time to fish. Anglers often stage at the mouth of inlets to cash-in on the affects of powerful tides.

To the sides of your hands and in the outside joints of your index and pinky fingers to stop cuts when pulling knots tightly or wiring food fish barehanded in the heat of the moment. If you can't stand to wear a glove on your reel hand all day, take#64 rubber bands and wind them figureeight style around every reel handle in the spread. Usually just two rubber bands per reel work well enough.

Put on your shades before you go outside. What's your way to cool down?
