Someone in my community has killed 3 going on 4 of my neighbors dogs, totaling seven dogs so far! Some have been shot, ran over, and poisoned. :( We don't know exactly who is doing this but we have a good idea, maybe. There is no leash law where I live and these dogs are not vicious or aggravating. Plus, I live in a small town in Tennessee and I like to believe that if someone had a problem with our animals they would come to us first and let us know so that WE can do something about them, if that involves chaining them, keeping them inside, caging them, or giving them to another good home. But killing them? why? Is there anything I can do to stop this? Anything effective? Maybe posters? Flyers? The local newspaper?? I have no idea!!!! I don't want to get the law involved if I can avoid it and I don't know if there's anything they'll even do. Any idea's would be awesome, very much appreciative. I can't find any advice on this anywhere else on the net.

    Thanks guys!

Other people on this board aren't going to tell you to do anything but figure out a way to get the law, the media or other Official Public Agencies (SCSPA, Humane Society, etc) involved.
Do you have a crime watch(s) in your neighborhood or community?

no, no crime watch. the only thing that comes to my mind is posters. Warn people to keep their dogs close until something is done and ask whoever is responsible to let us know if our animals are bothering them. I mean I know this sounds like pesky little animals causing a ruck.. but I mean I am a neighbor myself, these dogs don't bother a fly.. don't get in the trash. But they are use to being able to take a walk around through the woods and what not, the way I think it should be to them. If they caused problems at my house I would go to the owners and tell them I am having a problem with them. That is the same respect I paid my neighbors growing up and I they paid me the same. Sorry for so much information. I guess I will try the posters and see if that works.

Oh honey, please don't get me wrong...I take what you are saying quite seriously. What you have described sounds horrible (and like you got a little group of serial killers coming along, or the makings of one bad bad evil ass person).
Y'all need to get organized...the community....watch every body...every single person, especially the younger people. They would be more likely to be able to walk around, travel around without anybody noticing.
Perhaps even someone your own age that has been abused, or if they have shown violent or psychotic episodes.
Just thoughts. The posters would be good...but word of mouth and face-to-face talking will do as much/more. :)

Barking dogs can really piss people off. The owners often ignore it or aren't around when they bark. That quiet little dog can go crazy left alone in the backyard or apartment when everyone's gone. So for everyone's sake, people should train their dogs not to bark, except under special circumstances. If owners don't take responsibility for their dogs when they're around or away, then they are mostly responsible for any consequences, sad to say.

And if people don't feel right going to the neighbor about a problem with their animal, then try animal control or the police. There are usually procedures for dealing with nuisance animals.

we live in the sticks skip, and I know animals can cause problems, but killing them is not the answer. Tell the owner and let them take care of their animals, don't you agree? I am a neighbor myself and these dogs are not pest, they simply cross your yard every now and then coming out of the woods or what not, then they go on home. they are several different people's dogs. not just one person, someone is just scrooge!

and thank you so much lynn, maybe posters and door to door flyer handing out? that way we can talk to everyone and really explain too, and get others to help keep our animals safe?

So is your neighbor being a responsible dog owner now and keeping his eye on his dogs at all times? If not he is allowing this to happen again.

Also, if he is allowing his dogs the ability to walk into a roadway, then he doesn't care if they live or die.

This is really a shame all around.

not everyone wants random peoples dogs in their yard

just because theres no leash laws in your area doesnt mean they should be allowed to roam around wild

According to where you live, the police are part of the problem! (or are related to 'em)

Isn't that also dependent on the situation?

I really don't see how calling the cops could make the dog killing spree worse..

plant rights, animal rights, nature rights!
