I've been seriously thinking about turning this abandoned mill into a home (not specifically just for me, but for a community of people trying to live a life off urban farming and such.) For years this mill has been shut down and is taking up space, sometimes people run punk shows there, but no one has attempted to make a home there yet (due to no lights perhaps?). Since there is no plan to knock it down and some parts of the mill can be successfully altered to be secured I've been thinking why not? Seize the day. I heard some successful stories of people making homes out of abandoned buildings and I'm kicking myself in the butt for not keeping in touch with those individuals. I'm wondering if anyone here has been there and done that.
If the owner of the building, or the municipality it is in, decide to condemn the building and destroy it, it sells, or any number of other things, with ZERO notice and preperation, you lose everything you build up. Can it be done? Of course, for a little while... perhaps even years... and the longer it goes on, the more you lose when it gets shut down. Why not find a place to put that energy that will build yourself a future that can't be snatched away by total whim...
