Granted, he used a certain amount of poetic license and generalisation in his post but it seems like everyone understood except you.

There is much good and also much bad on the internet, its sad that some things are here, but we think its also up to the children, nor do we think its really a race specific issue. There could be some great stuff on the internet, its just up to the people who create sites, to put interesting and wholesome things on, that's why the internet is open to everyone, we don't think its necessarily bad, I think often it is prejudged, when the amazing things one can find are great. Lets focus on the good and forget the bad, I think everything happens for a reason, but if we focus on the good, I think we attract the good to us, approaching it from a point of fear will just draw fear.

Children aren't really violent, only in a playful sense maybe, maybe from being repressed pointlessly, they feel they must force things, but if kids are just allowed to be themselves as much as possible its probably the best way, when we were a kids I know we really disliked just being told to put on clothes we didn't like, because otherwise I wouldn't be acceptable by some unseen force which seemed a iffy to me (not that I didn't believe in the unseen force, I just had difficulty believe it wanted me to look uncool), I've seen so many instances where kids are just totally put down, not even for doing anything wrong, just for being different, and its not really for any reason at all, just a compulsive need to conform, which isn't really realistic or necessary, I don't think anyone is really walking around judging people because they don't look like neat squares all the time, and if they are well that's incredibly materialistic. Its important to find a middle ground maybe, if it really bothers you what your child is doing.

Maybe TV isn't the best way, though it can be an easy way to relax, what are the thoughts which are being perpetuated and stylized? What happened to that show Captain Planet? I think good can come of it. I don't personally really watch it though.

We think for one thing, its important for kids to learn about Hippies and peace and love, unity, the arts and folk lore of all cultures,
and to love nature, and be environmentally conscious through real life experiences, learn about plants, edible plants, and growing plants, and a sense of a greater whole, oneness. And creativity is important too, they can make their own stories instead of just always listening to ones which are being told to them.

I think these concepts are a good defense against some of what you might come up against, because kids aren't really stupid, they think for themselves, but its just a matter of putting good ideas out there, and not squashing their ideas.

There are more wholesome things to talk about, why worry about others who are not present and their life journeys unless it effects you personally, or they need help and are asking for it?

She is a very poor example of what a parent is, IMO. I feel sorry for her children. Little kids, having to listen to that garbage.

This is one of the first threads that I read and I totally agree.

I think the term "White Trash" is simply a little heavy for most. I have been seeing this kind of behaviour by parents since I remember starting to become conscious of the education system I was caged in. My friends parents would just let their kids watch whatever and for however long. I see this around more than ever, kids raised by the magic box. Part of the problem is kids bombarded by a million channels that seem to be mostly about violence and other material that any conscious being wouldn't want their children to watch daily. When I was a little kid I could only watch Sesame Street and Mr.Dressup. It really is the responsibility of the parents to enforce media that is educational for their children, if any media at all.

I tend to think this is a tactic of corporations to keep kids attention on a shallow, materialistic world so they can meet their fiancial goals, regardless of how it is crippling society.

Soooo many reasons behind Social decay but I think it all boils down in essence to fear and the various means individuals use to numb themselves to it.

Fear the bomb, fear big brother, fear death by any number of unnatural causes including a growing number of STD's like aids and cancer-causing hpv, fear of financial ruin, fear of terrorists or fear that our government is working to make even more,,,
All driving individuals to take a "fuck the other poor bastard, I want what I want" approach to their existance and live only to find means to distract themselves from that fear, to fill their minds with trite nonsense in an effort to drown out the voices of concern in their mind, to distract them from painful truths, that their life may have no more point than that of an amoeba, that Jesus might not be coming back if he was in fact ever real in the first place, or that he may have just been a really enlightened individual and all the rulers since his existance have worked relentlessly to twist his words into something they're not, i.e. a get out of jail free card for bad behavior.

I dunno, almost in a ranty mood here. People, more often than not, suck.

 

Oh you are soo wrong. I have seen plenty of middle class white trash here where I live. White trash is a way of life, you can take the girl/boy out of the trailer park, but you can't take trailer park out of the girl/boy. Come visit me in Central Florida and I will show you what I mean. It doesn't matter if they are rich or poor, they will always be trash because it IS how they were raised...it's a vicious cycle.

 

Middle class? I thought it was working-slave class and upper class... Besides the point though. I agree, I see plenty of "middle class white trash" where I live too, I just tend to think that somewhere out there is a solution, not that they will always be trash.

 

There sure is a solution.
Throw the TV out and go outside and play with your children. In so doing, talk about your dreams, hopes and how you handle your day to day problems. Then ask them about their dreams, hopes and what their day to day challenges are like.

Now if scoring that touchdown, someone wants to drop kick it in for the extra point. Then as a parent all they need to do is stop being materialistic and learn to live on 1 income and make do with less.

It's much better for children to see parents making do with what they got instead of trying to win the game of "We-have-newer-and-more-useless-junk-than-our-neighbors"
