I've had dreads for I think four months and I initially backcombed them. I started washing with the BS wash but that just made my scalp gross and greasy and I still had dandruff so I started using Head and Shoulders which is working really, really well for me. The only problem is, I have a lot of loose hairs that aren't tangled at all, they are just straight hair that looks as if it has been brushed. So my question is, should I start using something else to wash my hair like T-Gel? Also about half of my dreads are doing really, really well and the other half really aren't, would T-Gel help with that also?

Would getting my hair wet in the shower everyday also contribute to this problem?

Why not just add some tea-tree oil or peppermint to your bs wash?

I have loose hairs too that aren't necessarily straight, but are definitely not knotted. Doesn't really bother me though.

I really didn't like the BS wash. I just felt like it made my hair dirtier and I experimented with different amounts of water/BS.

I tried BS too, now I use T-Gel, not too often, it's hardcore stuff so once or twice a week does the trick. I find washing too much isn't the best thing for my hair

loose hairs are part of having locks. 4 months is very young, and there are gonna be a lot of loosies. they'll probably lock up more within the next year or so.

You just gotta accept the fact that you got loosey goosey's. As time passes they'll find there way.

It's been around 2years now for me and I still got mad looseys in the front. I like to think of them as the rebels, they'll come around though.

Some races have very straight hair. Others are naturally very curly. I say just work with what nature gives you.

Dreads were the original style. Whether or not you want to look like a caveman is up to you.

if it bothers you that much, a crochet hook is a good option.

can be damaging though. although not as much as hf members would like you to think. i wouldn't go wild with crocheting because then you get those ugly perfectly round dreads that make your hair look like a bunch of sausages.

if it's a no to the crochet hook, then you just need to be patient hun.

True....sorta. I crocheted mine in the beginning, and while they looked really good for the first month or so, for awhile after that they looked like shit. My theory is that when you stop, the hairs are actually tightening themselves which makes them move around an get comfy in a new spot. Until that happens though, you're left with limp, fuzzy (I mean FUZZY) crap. Save yourself the time and just learn to love those loose hairs. Better to do nothing and change your mind later than fuck up your hair and wish you hadn't.

Thank you everyone for all your help! I'm going to switch to T-Gel when my Head and Shoulders runs out and I'll just deal with all my loose hairs. I think the T-Gel will help though. I had a couple of dreads before i backcombed my head and I crocheted those ones but I'm not doing it to my whole head.
