Anybody play slap? I'm trying to learn, it's awesome! So.... How old were you when you started? Are you any good? What inspired you to start? Aaaaahhhhhhh!!! I love this so much!!!!!
I CAN. But don't too often. I used to be able to do it very well on my electric. Traded that for an acoustic. I can still slap on acoustic but its a bit more difficult. Still sounds good. I guess I'm okay. I started about a year after I started to play guitar, so 2 1/2 years ago...17 years old or so. I forget where I saw it, probably on youtube somewhere...
Mmmmm...I love the sound of it! I think the first time I can remember seeing it was in August Rush. Googles a bunch of videos, and now I'm hooked! Hubby and I are gonna try and get something started.
I love it as well.. I wouldn't say I play slap guitar, but I do slap the guitar. It makes a great sonic contrast to strumming/picking and can help to create some really cool sounds. The THUMP associated with slapping a chord can help to create/reinfoce a kickdrum/bass sort of rhythm... softly played a pad sort of backdrop can be layed out - picking within this backdrop is particularly fun and sonically "full" sounding IMO slapping is best viewed as a method of attack, rather than a definitive style.
