Odd question I know, but I had night terrors frequently as a kid and when I have nightmares today they're really intense and weird. I want to keep track of them now because I always forget them and the only way is to have them more often. So any suggestions would be helpful!
There is an old myth I have heard that says if you eat peanut butter before bed you will have nightmares. Writing in a journal as soon as you wake up will help you remember.
I heard if you take PCP with your hot coca, you have crazy dreams. The problem is, they might or might not be dreams. I'm sure freud could have all sorts of fun with you.
I have kept a sort-of record/journal which has turned word-pad here in my dear old computer about dreams...for well, years. I really don't see the corelation between keeping a dream journal/record and either understanding the dreams or increasing them or whatever. Please, don't desire this! Want to have dreams, yes - but wanting nightmares, please beware...for often we get what we ask for. Nightmares are awful. Vivid and odd dreams are not; but strange just the same...surely that would work?

Start taking St.John's wart before bed or chloroquinine if you can find it (but you probably cant unless you are going somewhere that you need to get treated for malaria. Look in to mexican dream herb.
This actually worked last night thanks! ha and I use my nightmares as subject matter when I paint to answer your other question.
Melatonin supplementation might be useful. Some people say it can cause vivid dreams that are more easily remembered. Not necessarily nightmares I guess, but I think the content of your dreams is totally dependent on your mindset, so you can influence that to a certain degree as well.
What about that CHANTIX shit? You can quit smoking and have horribly vivid nightmares - 2 birds! But people have reported that the nightmares don't stop when you quit taking the pill, and have led to suicidal thoughts (and actions) - seriously it sounds awful, I am not actually recommending it. Datura might do the trick, I had a friend who took it specifically so he would still be delusional when he finally fell asleep (it sometimes lasts 2 or 3 days). He described some very vivid dreams, and while he didn't have nightmares, most people who take datura describe the whole experience as quite negative and unpleasant (but also interesting and worth while, if not euphoric), and I imagine, for many, the dreams while under its influence are no different.
I agree with the food.. If I had some things I really dont eat like Italian hoggie before I went to sleep. Its full on skull smashing, blood and guts Mafia dream..
In my experience melatonin gives more or less dreamless sleep, but then again, I can never remember my own dreams.
