I always hated guns till I had to get a .22 to kill possums and coons that kill our chickens for fun. I try to trap them first and relocate them but if that doesn't work me and my dogs hunt them out.

I have a theory that the general public are sometimes fine with young people they perceive to be dressing in a hippie style, but do take against older people they understand to be hippie or nonconformist in some way. I think it's because they think older people "mean it", or they would have stopped it by now!
The attitude is a patronising to younger people, a bit like patting them on the head and saying "How cute!"

I am a hippie, always have been and proud of it. Unfortunately there isn't any money in it for the most part. So I moved to Denver in the early 70's, cut my hair and actually started using what I went to college for. Most people back then associated hippies with draft dodging lazy slackers with no drive to get ahead. I wanted more than that in life so I learned how to talk like the guy on the five o'clock news and put on a tie. I became a business owner and walked and talked with business leaders in the community. I am now retired and looking back it's funny how I fooled everybody. I am now back in bell bottoms and sandals never to wear a suit and tie again.

A lot of people only know hippies from the movies and Hollywood stereotypes everything. Hippies tend to be carefree, not tied down or sold out to the 9 to 5 work world. People envy that freedom.
