    for example.

hey man wanna come with me to the store to buy a lighter?

example 1: yeah homie I am down to go buy a lighter

example 2: yeah man I am up for it.

which one do you use more? up or down?

I don't know which I use more, but I will start counting.

If something is further along the road, is it UP the road or DOWN the road?

I think that depends on the geography of the area.

If it is uphill, I hate when people say down.
If it is definitively south, I hate when people say up.

One of my biggest pet peeves with online friends is if their joking around about coming to visit and say the wrong one.

I say "im down" sometimes when i agree with someone about going to do something.

Never use "im up" or anything, haha makes me think of taking uppers. Which i don't.

HA! this thread is so funny, I was questioning this just yesterday. I never used "up" or "down" when making plans...i don't use slang that much? I think "down" is definitely popular on the west coast here, i don't know about anywhere else. I get more satisfaction when I say down though, as in "I'm SO DOWN to smoke tonight guys!".
I think that down means you're excited for the activity, while up means you're okay with it, but not really excited.

I notice on tv shows where a challenge is presented, the shows usually say, " are you up for the challenge" ? I never see are you down for a challenge haha.

when fights happen around here this what lots of people use

example: damn those fools just got down

example: you wanna get down or what fool

example: shit when that fool gets down he has some crazy hands

I always thought most people said "up the street" or "down the streeet" based on address numbers, regardless of incline direction. I prefer the more neutral "I'm going over there"

If talking about geography, I will use the incline-proper form.

Otherwise, it's all down, I'm down, are you down, etc, I think non-americans use the up-form more; "What are you up to?" .. "are you up for.... "

haha yeah cus that one sure does not work with "im going under there" unless you pointing to going under a bridge or something.

oh and when someone is gonna fight they say " I am gonna fuck you up" " I am gonna fuck you down" haha does not work
