I've been going around with short spurts of going barefoot since I was quite young. I just recently found out that it was a possible lifestyle choice. Uncommon, but a lifestyle choice nonetheless. I think I was around 14 and a half when I decided I wanted to be barefoot as much as I can. My first fully barefoot day was on a weekend watching a drive in movie with friends and it got quite a bit of attention for showing up without any form of footwear at all, though 99% of that attention was from those friends of mine who knew me for some time now and never knew I loved being barefoot.

I used to go barefoot as a child, but really barefoot life-style started when I was 14 :)

In south africa, kids generally begin barefooting from birth. Many kindergarden schools prefer that kids come barefoot. The primary schools are 80-90% barefoot friendly, and encourage kids to attend school barefeet. In many schools, the barefoot option is clearly mentioned in the unform standard, and also in many cases, the preferred option.
