Anybody experience hypnagogic hallucinations? What are they really?
I came across a forum/support group for hh and was surprised to find out that hypnagogics share the same hallucinations. I have seen bat-like creatures that look like something out of a horror movie. I see intricate snowflake like designs that keep moving towards me until I duck. My most common one is spiders. Crawling across the ceiling, on my bed, hanging from a web just a tad above me. I AM definitely awake for all of this. Sitting up eyes wide open. They are not remnants of a dream. They last too long for that. I also hear pieces of conversations, noises like loud bangs, radios, lots of auditory stuff. I think it is weird that people who suffer from hypnagogia, all share the same hallucinations. Creepy. Anyone else experience this?

I frequently experience sleep paralysis with all sorts of hallucinations.

First time I vividly saw a demon-like creature on top of me snarling. Other times I've seen/heard my flatmate yelling in my face with a megaphone (Which I thought was real at the time, I was furious at him until I realised it as a hallucination)

I am sooo glad I don't get the sleep paralysis. That must be terrifying.

well, I don't mind the "snowflake thingys" or the audio stuff, but the spiders and little creatures scare me.

No visuals, but I often get voices or conversations when I'm fading in or out of sleep. Generally what they say is in some way relevant to me. Of course, keep in mind that I'm the guy who talks to spirit guides in my head even when I'm wide awake...the thing is, the spirit guide voices are much louder when I'm in a hypnagogic state. And sometimes it's just random chatter about nothing in particular.

What sometimes happens is that the voices will apparently be having a conversation about me and then when I become more awake and try to actively listen, they suddenly clam up as if somebody said, "Ssshhh, he's awake!"

I like the hypnagogic voices. I just wish I could linger in that state longer, but I generally either fall completely asleep or wake up.

the conversations I hear are never relevant to me. sometimes they sound like radio or tv broadcasts. (lol maybe they are...maybe it's the fillings in my teeth picking it up haha)

Sometimes when I stare out at the trees or up above at the clouds I see the most amazing images of ghosts, specters, devils, and sometimes angelic symbols and faces imbedded within

I didn't realize the auditory "hallucinations" - which I KNOW I have heard - and certainly more than just a few times! - would be considered hypnagogia.

I have even been awakened out of a sound sleep, or when I was literally on the verge of sleep to be shocked awake by this sound. (I would NOT be pleased.) It almost seemed to vibrate through me; but it didn't hurt. It still seems to have felt sort of like a type electricity. (?Kundalini??

I also haven't felt that ^^^ in about a year; but when I was going through it, it happened on no less than weekly to a 3 nights per week basis.

The "conversations", as well as the "things, places" I sometimes "see" behind my closed eyes at sleep also never, ever seem to have anything to do with me personally....like I've somehow tuned in to something. I've never heard or seen anything pertinent to me!

A couple of nights ago I had another hallucination! Only this time I was awake.

Walked into the lounge, when I opened the door I saw a corpse hanging from a rope. I thought one of my flatmates had hanged themself and felt a wave of dread, but then the image just disappeared.

Even though I only saw it for maybe a second, was still a very unpleasant thing to walk into a room and see!

maybe that was a "ghost" image of a sad past event that happened on that spot. perhaps you could look into the history of the building and if you find nothing there try looking into the history of the property the building is sitting on.

I get sleep paralysis a lot, so naturally that comes with it. Yes I have experienced hypnogogic hallucinations.

I hear voices, kind of muttered, random voices. I will see random images appear before my eyes. I've saw a mountain dew can, a mountain, a dancing bunny, pac man face, it ranges. I've gotten the same ones smoking bud too.

I think it's part of it is your minds stored memories of images and sounds and somehow in that stage before sleep they start coming out. I think it is related to DMT.

Last intense one I had the world was fading, a sense of derealization, I got scared as fuck and everything came back. This black figure is always there I call him the "Top hat man" because he has a fedora on his head. I think it is a shadow person who is trying to communicate a message to me.

just had to , oo , goggle that one . seems it refers to entering
the state intentionally by a magic in a search for meaningfulness .

    a contrived intention is relationally
peaceful to chaos ? maybe not

I did NOT like it, not feel peaceful when being awakened by this buzzing, vibrational thing that was happening to me. Hell, it woke me up!

I like my sleep (and much prefer not to be so rudely awakened)...even when I have weird dreams, which have been waking me up lately.

it could be just that - electricity - and that it is in fact disturbing . the sense of this disturbance can be enhanced by the imagination so that you may note it as a message of importance : Alert , Please Unplug .

we get immersed in this web of electric wires - underground , strung on poles , woven through walls . we can get numb to the feeling , the chronic buzzing all round . numb is dumb . i DO NOT like it .

occasionally i'll experience a sound that is of me yet beyond .
never tho has it been disturbing , just surprising .

who is that calls out my name ? `michael ' .
i don't know . i wake up . it was nigh time to
get out of bed . who is it that plays the great
drum of the earth ? i don't know . itsa fine sound ,
    deep and wide .

more accurately becoming intentionally meaningful while in the state in a search for magic...

also, Lynn, when the buzzing happens, trust that your body'll do it's thing and keep you going. try an intentional OBE. It may suddenly become something fun and enlightening.
